I've wanted my own Tacoma for a long time. My Dad had a used 2002 and it was bullet proof.

I bought a fog light kit from Amazon for about $35 and watched a few videos. I removed the switch blank and there is a wired plug so I searched and cannot find any wires for the fog lights under the fenders/hood. Also, the fuse and relay are not plugged into the box.

I was surprised to find the wired plug behind the switch blank and wondering if the wires go to the fuse box. It would be great if I didn't have to run wires!

My Tacoma is a basic Pre-Runner, Texas Edition and thanks to this forum, I've made a few easy mods:
    1. back-up camera and mirror. (the wiring was already there so that was easy!)
    2. Tail gate security. (simple mod, lessons learned from the past)
    3. Intermittent wipers. (plug and play replacement)
    4. Replaced vinyl visors with SR5 versions.
    5. Replaced noisy fan motor.
    6. Replaced black grill with OEM silver one.

    Any help will be appreciated.

I am in a similar situation with my 2012 Prerunner SR5. I am looking into buying fog lights and after watching several YouTube videos, I learned to check if my truck is prewired or not. I too cannot find any wires near where the fog light banks are located, and the blank switch like the one in your picture has nothing behind it, but the far right blank does. Not sure what it goes to, or what that third space is normally used for. I have read elsewhere that the one you show in your picture is for the factory fog lights. Any assistance either of us finds will surely help the other.

Only the V6 trucks are prewired.

If you have a 2.7, you're SOL. Gotta buy the complete kit and run/tap for harness power.

That's what I was figuring. Any idea what is behind the third blank switch plate, and why it would have a connector?

The third blank switch plate (rightmost) is meant for a 120VAC outlet in the bed. Very useful for camping.
The middle blank switch plate is for rear differential lock switch.
The leftmost blank switch is for fog lights, as you know.

There's a few things it could be.

My truck was a 2.7, so hell if I know what they are.

If yours is a V6, it could be for the fog switch. That said, behind those covers is just empty air space, so pulling a wire from door number 1 doesn't mean that's what the connector behind it is for. So if something is in the fog light area, it may not be fog light wiring.

I just went through this with my truck,

I found that same black connector behind my switch blank.
Lay on the ground under your front end and look at your near where the wiring would go to the fogs. I found on each side two connectors coiled up and twist tied to the rad supports. My truck had the wiring already for the fogs there. That black connector looKS the same as the one I came across and it WAS my switch wiring for the fog lamps. Check to see if you have those wires hidden coiled up on each side of your truck near where the fogs lights ar. They should be a little higher up. If they're there boom you're all wired already

I pulled it through the middle in this pic but same idea. If that left one looks the same as yours.

Apparently there's a wired plug behind each of these blanks but only looked at this one (#1) for the fogs.

I'm still searching for those wires under the hood and haven't seen them yet. I'll use a search light tomorrow!

Thank you. That's the video that inspired me and I just haven't found those harnesses yet. Really strange if Toyota has this plug but didn't continue the under the hood. I haven't given up yet!

I crawled under my truck Saturday after watching the video where the guy discovers his was already prewired after wiring it halfway himself. I didn't find any connections near the fog bays, but I wasn't looking on the radiator supports. I did see some cables in that general area, but it looked like they ran up and were probably connected to something, I didn't look close enough to see if they were just zip tied like you mention. Maybe this Saturday I'll get back under there. Thanks for the suggestion!

No joy trying to find the elusive pre-wired fog cables. In the process, I took a photo of the tag on the main harness coming from the cab into the engine/fuse box.
    upload_2017-2-24_14-27-38.jpg

Called Toyota and that P/N does NOT have the pre-wire for fogs. They said an -04DXX will have it. Damn.

All is not lost! Even if you don't have or can't find the wires under the hood it's extremely easy to add, plus you'll have full control over when the fog lights are on.

You can get an OEM switch and use the connector, just cut the wires behind it and extend to relay, power, ground and dash illumination.

This truck just needs fog lights in those empty pockets on the bumper.
I just bought a kit from Amazon for about $35. The only thing I 'm worried about is punching a hole to run the wires from the cab to the engine.

There's already a hole in the firewall and Toyota have us a spare grommet that you can cut the nipple of to use for this kinda stuff. Easy peasy

    Is your truck a V6?
