Is there any issues, unexpected problems with tasking a 2.7 from a 2002 prerunner and putting it right in my 97 tacoma? Would I need the ecm from the prerunner às well?thanks.

My 97 has a 2.7 also and it has a coil pack, not a distributor. Thanks.

Is 02 still a regular throttle cable? or is it throttle by wire?

I've got an 02 DC with a 2.7 and the throttle body is controlled by the throttle cable

Early 97 used a distributor and a lot of the sensors are different. You would have to swap the computer and engine harness as well as gauge cluster. An easy way to tell if you have a late 97 is cool pack and 5 wire maf. Or you would need to swap the head on the 02 to a 97 head.

I have a '98, which is the year Toyota redesigned a lot of the truck's facade. I'm guessing they changed some mechanical aspects as well.

How many wires are coming out of the black box on top of the aluminum tube that is attached to the airbox?

I haven't gotten the truck towed to my house yet to look, but I will as soon as I get it here. If there is 5 wires does that mean the engine wI'll hook right up? Thanks.

It will definitely be closer. You may have some tiny changes in EGR and EVAP system but generally you just have to transfer the old stuff to the new engine. May need to put your old throttle body in as well.

02 probably doesn't have the charcoal canister next to the brake booster like yours does. I believe they are under the bed, but in theory it shouldn't matter.

I want to go ahead and put a new timing chain/water pump kit on the engine while it's still out of the truck. I seen them on ebay anywhere from $70 to $200 plus, Just wondering what other people are using? The engine I got for the truck has 212K on it. Thanks for any advice.

Water pump is a good idea, I'd find OEM if you can. Timing chain is good for the life of the motor and you'll be replacing a lot of seals just to get to it. I'd leave it alone if I were you.

A little off topic here, but I'd like to ask a question,,,, does your truck have cruise control? If so, is it a std. or a auto? I'd like to put C.C. on my '95 2.7, std. but not an aftermarket, if I can get away with it.

What do you think about changing the head gasket? I've heard people have trouble with those leaking.
