Never really fell in love with "CF", so took a chance and tried a local bootcamp. It's much more of what I was after. CF was a little too much strength and one rep max biased, while my bootcamp is more Met-Con and HIIT. For my goals it was a better fit. CF certainly opened my eyes however and I am forever grateful.

I grew up in a gym doing set after set of one dimensional lifts, while CF/bootcamp trains you like an athlete. I love it and am in better shape than I've ever been.

Regarding gym cliques... unfortunately they all have them in my experience. The people who aren't in the cliques are the cool ones anyway, so talk to them! :)

Tough to beat CF for time spent/fitness gained ratio.

I see you posted in the gym / fitness thread.... Poor choice. They all think cardio is the devil and weightlifting is the only legitimate form of exercise.

As far as CF being one rep max focused maybe it was just the gym you were at? Mine and all the ones I've dropped into go through cycles of low weight/ high reps to heavy weight/ low reps for building strength and almost always are followed with a metabolic conditioning workout, similar to HIIT.

The whole point of CF is all around fitness: Oly lifting, aerobic capacity, gymnastics, running etc.. again sounds like the programming at the box you went to was more focused on Oly lifting and not all around fitness. Just my 0.02

Yeah, I got quite the welcome over there. It's ok, I used to be one of them too. :)

Yes, the CF I went to was much too competition focused and not a good fit for me. I think the majority of are NOT like this, but it was my only experience so it's all I have to go on. I'm very happy with where I am now and know without a doubt that I'm in better shape than I've ever been. Still as strong as I ever was when I was a gym only person, but much stronger in many ways - most importantly cardio vascular.

    Cool.

Anyway...after losing 3 family members a year and a half ago, I've been slacking in many areas of my life...especially fitness. I'm exhausted all of the time, gaining weight, and I am irritable 90% of the time. This is the first step back into the game (off of the Brand X site):

    WARM-UP:
    3x
    20 dumbbell shoulder presses (15#)
    10 dumbbell delt flys (10#)
    10 incline push-ups
10 banded triceps press-downs (Green band)

    TEKKERS:
    10:00
Clean technique work using 175# or less

    145#

    CONDITIONING:
    2 x AMRAP in 7:00, rest 2:00
    10 kipping pull-ups
10 dumbbell hang power cleans (35#)

    1: 3 rounds

    2: 2 rounds + 10 reps

    -then-

    3x
    400-meter row sprint
    Rest 1:00

    1: 1:48

    2: 1:42

    3: 1:44

Takeaway: Feels good to move with purpose again, but I have a lot of work to do. Tomorrow is going to suck.
