As long as we keep paying the price they will keep going up.

All vehicles are out of control with there price.

OP here. Well I am presently in a F-250 Diesel Platinum edition and I just cant give up all that roominess so I cancelled my deal on the Tacoma and it was a good deal. Tundras can be had for $4-5000 off sticker around here so it will put me very close to the Tacoma pricing.

Like I said I am not worried about gas since I have a Ford Focus for those trips and its not like my F-250 Diesel is any better than the Tundra and diesel cost more.

I made my decision and I will be hanging around here as its so much fun to hear all the bitching.

I had a 15 Tundra and now a 17 Tacoma. I would only go back to Tundra if I needed more power to haul stuff around. Tundra was more roomy and comfortable, but in full disclosure, I had always wanted a Tacoma and seem to like every generation of them. Bottom line, it makes me happier.

Funny, I thought about this today... I have a 2 month old '17 OR DCLB 4x4. When I was looking into a truck, wife wanted the Tundra (roominess), and I wanted the Tacoma (practical everyday driving/gas). I saw a Tundra Pro today and thought, man, maybe I should have bought the Tundra...

Then it hit me... If I bought the Tundra, I would now wish I had the Tacoma. Grass is always greener on the other side. Lol. Get what works best for you. You will always want something else.

@Jaggerbub I too always loved the Tacoma so I am sure I will end up wanting a Tacoma after the I buy the Tundra. I change vehicles like I change my underwear.

Every thing is going up. What's a bottle 16 ounce of soda cost these days, what was it 10 years ago?

Here in Maine the minimum wage increase was just voted in, it will be 15 bucks an hour in a few years. No one discussed how that will drive prices up even more.

Buy what you want, want what you buy, rinse...lather...repeat...

I went from a 92 Toyota X-cab, to a series of Ford 150's, to an 07 Toyota Crewmax(runner up), back to an 150 Ecoboost(best of the bunch) back to a 14 Tundra Crewmax, and now a 17 Tacoma Crew. All 4x4's and well optioned (except the 92 all it had was air and these knobs you rotated to open and close windows).

Pick the right tool for the job, if you are towing often over 2000 lbs, I wouldn't buy a Tacoma period. We used to tow a large(25 and 29') boat and 4-place enclosed snowmobile trailer, we needed a full size truck for that. The only towing we do now is about 2-3 times a year a 2-place snowmobile trailer.

It is just the wife and I, no young-uns so it fits us well. Are you hauling 4 adults regularly or 2 adults and a parcel of kids, don't buy a Tacoma period. Are you over 6' tall and even partially claustrophobic, or under 6' tall and like an expansive cabin, don't buy the Tacoma period.

Do I wish the 3.5 had more torque, absolutely, but I also like that I can get 22+mpg running 65 mph on a 630 mile round trip on mostly 2-lane country roads. My 14 Tundra would turn 15+/- on the same run, the '11 Ecoboost would do 19+/-.

Are you looking for a red light stop and go speed racer, don't buy the Tacoma period.

For us, the ease of driving in traffic, around parking lots and tighter spaces, fit for our current uses, and still having a pick-up bed to haul crap in, the Tacoma was the right choice, period.

Things will change and should our driving needs evolve again, I will not be afraid to cut the Tacoma loose, for now we like it very much.

I posted this similar thread in the gen 2 section:

I'm very happy with my Tacoma after driving 3 Tundras. Since I no longer need the full sized capacity, I couldn't wait to hop into something smaller, more maneuverable, easier on the wallet, and overall more fun.

TL;DR - Buy what you need.

    My humble Tundra credentials:

I've driven 3 Tundra's so far in my life: 2001 V6 reg cab 4x2, long bed (my first car), 2006 limited 4x4 (great truck!), and 2009 5.7L SR5 DBL Cab (work truck).

Between all 3, I probably have over 500k miles of seat time.

I've maxed out the hauling capacity on all three trucks -- motorcycles, machinery, 4'x12' sheets of steel, cement bags etc..

I've towed various boats, trailers, etc...

Tundra's are good trucks. They get the job done. They are beasts!

They are big. They are not nimble. They've forced me to develop a skill -- I unconsciously know where the cheapest gas station is in every adjacent city to mine as well the quickest route there.

The suspensions are made of 2x4's until loaded 500lbs+ in the bed or towing something heavy. Then you'll know what the money was spent on. You'll smile as the truck floats like a cloud to it's destination. You'll feel like Hannibal, riding on his elephant to conquer Rome. :)

But all of Hannibal's elephants eventually died. He could not feed them all or they got sick. He was forced to ride horse back on his trek back to Carthage. You will feel Hannibal's despair at the gas pump.

    ---

I feel a mid sized truck will do 90% of what the AVERAGE person needs in a pick up. When I say average, it excludes professionals who require a full size truck day-in & day-out.

Ask yourself this: "How often will I max out the towing and hauling capability of my truck?" Be honest with yourself.

If you can pinpoint specific cases which require more capacity, ask yourself "How often do these cases occur?"

Would it be easier to borrow a friend's full size truck on those occasions you need the extra space/power? Fill up his tank with gas, drive it through the car wash before you return it, then take him out to eat... ? Maybe rent from U-haul for $19.99 per day?

    ---

I would buy another Tacoma if given the choice. It's the right size for my current needs.

It's a 3rd gen and yes, it has many of the odd characteristics of 3rd gens. But my past experience tells me Toyota will take care of it, just like Toyota took care of my last 3 trucks. :)

    Cheers!

    Bao

and my TRD ORAC V4 gets the same mpg's as my old dakota. i think i will be trading in the taco next year.

Ecoboost is junk, which is a shame because Ford is doing away with all gas V8's from what I understand. Putting the Ecoboost in the GT was the first step.

IMO the Ridgeline looks absolutely terrible. I would go with Canyon Denali if you really want luxury but I still think the Tacoma looks better.

no ridgeline for me . it looks like i will most likely be getting an 18 raptor if i can hold off on the 17my. the dealer markups are helping with that.

i dont know how you can say the ecoboost is junk. sure some motors do go through evolutions, like the ecoboost, with DI and now port injection (just like the tacoma) is addressing some of the previous design issues.
both are great machines. just different.

if the ecoboost was a direct fit into the taco it would be a very popular mod, just saying.

Congrats! BTW it will take you a week to find all the hidden storage compartments. I swear they must make these for drug mules.
