Bought a 2012 Tacoma. The radio seemed like it was not original. Went to the dealer and got a build sheet and sure enough it came with the Entune system. Bought a replacement Entune and went to install it today. Crap, found cut original wires wrapped up under tape.

Notice the upper opening... had been ground away on both sides of the top.

I checked with Calmini trucks and the guy said I probably couldn't get all the plugs and short wires to splice back into my truck unless I spent $300 for the under dash wiring harness! I'd really like to get this Entune system installed in our truck!

Yeah, not sure that will work. There's something like 10 plugs!

Start ID'ng wires by color to decipher what's factory and not, or what may be missing. Remove what's not factory, then proceed.

Oh fuck nvm I forgot the PO stuck a factory radio back in. In that case the main harness should've been left alone. Idk about the rest.

I'd almost just go aftermarket than pursue your nightmare.

PO got rid of entune unit, and when sold truck he took his aftermarket unit and then slapped a cheap early model radio back in with a subsequent hack job of wiring.

While it may appear daunting there is a fairly easy situation IF you would be ok with running an aftermarket head unit.

What I did for a buddy in a similar circumstance, was buy a nice head unit that did everything the oem unit did, what he wanted, and plus some. It retains the factory steering wheel controls using an adapter and sometimes a control box. Well that adapter, cut off the toyota end and solder onto the cut wires in your toyota. so basically its a permanent solution for running an aftermarket stereo. This solution sucks for staying oem radio, changing manufacturers of radios in 10 years, or if you cannot solder.

That's a JBL radio, not a typical Entune radio.

    Whole different wiring and components.

Go with an aftermarket touch screen, you'll be a lot happier. And you won't have to decipher wtf all those cut wires go to. Entune radios are nothing special, my 15 w/ navi is a POS.
