Hey taco owners I sadly clipped my passenger side rear fender while pulling into a lot today. Wanted to know if anyone had suggestions on how to buff this out cause I think the fender is naturally grey so it won't be a paint job.

It looks like that has the clear film on it? Also, can't tell exactly where that is? Have another pic

Yeah I didn't notice that earlier but it looks like there's a protective film on the fender so it might not be as bad I guess.

Try polish. Sometimes it will get those off paint but I have no experience with the film.

So along with the fender this also happened I didn't even notice it earlier. Body shop had me send a picture and they estimated since there's some paint work to do it would cost 700-750 in work and 2-3 days to finish. I'm gonna go tomorrow to a few places and get some in person estimates and hopefully figure out when to get this fixed.

the side of the truck looks like some of it might be whatever you hit paint. try washing it wit soapy water and a rag, then get a polishing compound and buff it down. 5 minutes of work might clean it up enough to not be noticeable

Yeah I'm gonna do that in some better light tomorrow and then see how it is and decide whether I wanna still take it for an estimate atleast

If you can get that paint off then I probably wouldn't worry about getting the dent out.

So this is all that's left the white mark is completely gone and the dent an a faint scuff mark is all left behind barely noticeable. I'm seeing who can fix it for cheap but if everyone is charging too much I'll just fix it myself.

Guy at the dentless paint shop said the dent and scuff marks on bed and cab will work with dentless paint removal but he'll have to either airbrush the fender or paint it

That's pretty much what I thought upon seeing it. I'm a huge fan of not painting anything unless you really have to for several reasons. First, your chances of exactly matching the factory color - especially with the color on your truck - are not the best. Second, if the body shop sands through the electrodeposition primer, your corrosion resistance in that area drops significantly. And no matter what anybody may say, you simply cannot replicate all aspects of a factory paint job in a body shop. (Trust me, I used to supervise a painting shop for a major manufacturing company and I know what we went through just to prepare the surface for paint.) So if you can live with it, PDR the major stuff and live with the rest. Sorry it had to happen to such a nice looking truck.

Thanks, it's such that the truck is in perfect condition except for that, the dealership was bullshitting me saying how they gotta put a new TRD sticker and paint the side of the bed and panel in between cab and bed and then paint the rear door, they quoted 1,650 and 5 days to do it. The paintless dent removal shop quoted 450 and 1 hour to do it.

Truth be told, if they paint any part of a panel, they need to re-clear the whole panel because all of the UV resistance is in the clear coat. If you try to feather the clear coat, you will get a premature CC failure. That's why the dealership said that and also why they're not totally wrong.

So my final two shops to do the job are the one that was 450 and a new one that said 275, only reason I'm leaning towards the 450 one is cause he has a spotless reputation for the job and it will only take 1 hour meanwhile the 275 will take less than a day but he wants to drill into the side of the cab and fix that dent and put a plug in, and use paint filler which I don't like the sound of. I'm gonna review my options but tell me if you guys think one might be better than the other cause the 450 paintless dent removal is my likely choice

Go with the spotless reputation. I have exactly one shop where I live that I trust and wouldn't take anything anywhere else. Of course I don't want to be sending them too much business ...

For the side, paintless dent repair then wash, clay, and use a polish. Should cone right out.

The front you are effed if its in clear film. The only fix is to remove the clear film. This is why I don't get them. They get dinged up and you can't fix or repair. Id just get it stripped off. Probably no paint damage.

yeah I saw some ways online, like using soapy water to lubricate and clean the stratch then using 3000 and 5000 grit sandpaper to blend the stratch back into the paint and using polish then a wax to tie it all together.
