Bilstein 5125 with 12" travel will work

    Shocks - $160
Ruff Stuff Swap kit - $220
Chevy leaf springs - $100 or less for a pair
    Ford Shock Towers - $40
If you can weld or know someone that can then it's not that bad. But cost looking at 450+

So those of us that already have 5100s would need to purchase the 5125s.

Dakaar. Love them. Only reason I didn't go custom was I didn't want to wait.

I have Alcans, at just a year old right now. I have a shackle flip, with 6 inch shackle and my pack is 2inch lift,1/2 inch longer than standard plus 200lbs.
They ride well, flex really well but dont hold much for a load. I have wheelers bumps and about 1 inch between my bump and frame.

If I were to do it again (and still may) Id look into a spring under setup.

I'm gathering the bits for the 63" swap, about got your thread on it about memorized, but didn't see anything on the ford towers, which do I need? (front/back year/model) And where do I stick them?

I picked up a used set of allpro expos for my 15 a while ago. have been happy with them. I carry some weight, armor, tools, etc, and a RTT when I camp. no squat, and decent flex.

I put the ome dakars on my 01' and couldn't be happier. They are a little stiff but they are 10x better than an old worn out set of springs. They do good when i haul hay and firewood also.

Nice write up. How much were your deavers installed if you don't mind me asking and where is he located. Might be a good reason to take a day or two and drive down:).

Sometimes it's good to be a test case, sometimes you end up as 'Patient 0'

If I'm cross referencing these threads right, looks like I can run a 12" 5125 with the stock towers depending on the wheel and tire I'm running, or should I just go full bore and do the Ford towers and 14" 5125s?

I should be able to get most of everything I need from the local upull minus the billies and the mount kits. Any reason you didn't just chop the front leaf mounts out of the chevy?

I don't believe you can run 12" with stock towers. I had 12" with the BAMF Shock towers which is the most you can with those. Honestly go all the way and do Ford towers with 14 inchers

I honestly didn't even think about getting the front leaf mounts out of the chevy. The place I got the leaf springs actually pulled em for me for $100 for both and the thought didn't cross my mind lol

@jacksost90 - I also do animal feed or firewood 3-4 times a year in my long bed. Was contemplating the Dakar Heavy but a very helpful TW member told me since 95% of my driving is with no load and I’m planning to get airbags anyway, that I should get the Dakar Medium.
