How do you figure? The website says to remove the 3rd leaf (IIRC) to reduce the payload of the dakar by 15% and maintain factory payload. By that logic, wouldn't the Dakars increase payload by 15%? If you install the overload leaf, it gives you an additional 15%.

    No it doesn't.

Payload is decreased when the leaf is removed, not sure how you figure this. You said it decreases 15% and then maintains factory? In the same sentence.

Payload isn't increased. Payload has like 10% to do with leaf springs. The axles, the frame.. all have larger parts in determining payload capacity and neither of those are affected by a leaf spring setup.

Payload can't be increased by adding airbags or stronger leaf springs.

I figured that would need to be explained. Let's assume that the Dakar leaf pack increases payload by 15%. By removing the 3rd leaf and reducing the payload capacity of the Dakar pack by 15%, it would then leave you at the same payload capacity as the factory leaf pack.

Unfortunately, I can't find the links where I found that information when I did the research before deciding to go with the Dakars...that was 2 years ago. I can say from experience that a bed full of dirt used to make my bed look like it was dragging the ground. I don't have that issue anymore.

Wheelers does mention 15mm on their site, but I know that I've seen 15% in multiple places. I'm almost positive that the arbusa.com website is where I saw that, but I can't find it on there now.

How do you figure? If you increase the amount of weight that you can put in the bed, you increase the payload capacity. You are correct that all of the other components come into play, but you've undoubtedly heard the expression "a chain is only as strong as its weakest link." In this case, the leaf pack is the weak link. Without the necessary spring rate, you will bottom out your suspension. You will end up riding on the bumpstops and possibly blowing the shock. By adding the aftermarket leaf pack, air bags, whatever else is out there for that purpose, you increase the amount of weight that you can carry in the bed. The axle and frame are capable of handling quite a bit more weight than a measly 1,500lbs like the trucks payload states.

You can change how your truck responds to payload - less sag, more control under load, etc.

You cannot add payload capacity by adding suspension parts. You can add payload capacity by reducing overall vehicle weight - to an extent.

Payload capacity is a legally defined number and not based on what leaf packs you run, but is based on the vehicle itself.
