Positive traction, limited slip, no slip, anti-spin, etc. are all the same thing. Different names from different manufacturers used at different times.

None send power to both wheels equally at all times. That would would be a "Lincoln Locker" which I don't recommend. Google it. Your rear axle has to send different amounts of power to each wheel or it would be impossible to go around corners without breaking stuff. Any of the "limited slip" axles will try to send some power to the opposite rear wheel if one starts to slip a lot. They are very limited in performance and todays traction control does the same job much better. A true locking axle is better yet, but must be used with common sense or you'll break something.

what is your point? The discussion is not why a vehicle needs a differential (which is obvious), but about the terminology given by certain manufacturers to their traction control methods. OP says "positrac" is a general term, but I think (and I may be wrong) that it refers to GM's automatic locking diff, which I am not aware that other manufacturers have. Could be wrong though.

96 Tacoma 2.7L engine. 402604 miles on it when I sold it. I kept up on the maintenance and had no engine problems except oxygen sensor, brushes and contacts in the starter and brushes in the alternator. Great engine.

New Navigation DVD/CD/TV/AV/Bluetooth Stereo and seat mod spacers, 1" hubcentric spacers, seat heaters....
Not sure on that, bought the truck with 141,000 on it, I haven't swapped it out, although I have the parts and have had them for some time, was waiting for more parts to fix the rear intake manifold oil leak that surfaced a few thousand miles back...only want to dive into it once...runs like new...BTW, the 3.4 does not have a chain, but a ribbed belt, the 2.7 has a chain...

Pretty sure it is the original...I don't ever abuse it or rev it too high, take care of everything else religiously...

Anyone who has seen the original 1997 Air Bud movie, or the first 3 or so sequels will know that that the main human character's mother drives a 1996 Toyota 4Runner. My mom and my aunt took my cousin and me to see this movie in theaters in the summer of 1997. The 4Runner makes it's first appearance like 4 minutes into the movie, and some teenager behind me says "She's got a Toyota Sonoma." Only the front of the 4Runner was visible at first, so any layperson could have mistaken it for a 1995-1997 1st gen. I was 8 years old at the time, and I looked back and said "No, that's a 4Runner." Like I said, I was 8. This got a chuckle from my mom. After the movie ended, my mom told that she'd heard these teenagers saying something like "That kid knows his cars." I don't remember if the person who confused the 4Runner with a Tacoma, and the Tacoma with a GM poduct, was a boy or a girl, but that wasn't the first time or last time I impressed a stranger with my vast automotive knowledge.

I also knew this person was blatantly confusing a Toyota TAC-oma with a GMC SON-oma, but I have a feeling that I'd tried to explain that difference, it would have gone from cute to a annoying...

Screenshot of Jackie Framm's 1996 4Runner I found on IMCDB:

FYI When I took auto shop in 10th grade, I even impressed my auto shop teacher with my knowledge of vehicles, and I gained a reputation among classmates as "Knowing more about cars than Mr. Rose."

    Honestly...?

I have Asperger's Syndrome, and incredible memories are a common trait of AS. Though even my other high-functioning friends with AS are impressed. I am considered the family memory encyclopedia among relatives. Also, Asperger's or not, I smoked weed ONCE but never did any other drugs in my life. This probably has a lot to do with it too...

I don't remember what I ate yesterday either LOL (I just know it was some sort of frosted cereal). However, I can give you all the horsepower figures on engines available in 1987-1995 GM trucks and SUVs. I've also been surprised at how few owners of RWD GM products don't know that determining if their vehicle has "positraction" is as simple as seeing if the sticker in the glove box or the trunk says "G80." This had led to many curious owners of old Suburbans, CK pickups, and G-series vans excavating their gloveboxes in shopping center parking lots...

And as for the other shit I know, I didn't know it... I looked up stuff like the mother's name on Wikipedia. I just remembered the mom drove a silver 4Runner, and the 4Runner was no older than 1996 because it was the new 1996 "Tacoma" styling as opposed to the 1989-1995 "Hi-Lux" style.

How karmic retribution paid for my new head unit, backup camera, and dashcams (in pictures and memes):

    A guy like this:

Driving a car amazingly similar in appearance to this one:

Did this to my truck (and totaled his Benz in the process):

He surprisingly had a valid one of these despite the fact that calling him a repeat offender was an understatement, and only lost it for a year after what he did to my truck (he should have gotten it permanently revoked in my opinion):

He was ordered to pay me restitution after lying to his insurance company, which was used to pay for the head unit and backup camera seen in this thread. Karma's a bitch!

Ironically, I bought my neighbor a 12-pack of this, after he helped me install everything for free:

I have a way with animals. Even Ranger, the downright dangerous German Shepherd my uncle kept at his hubcap store as a foolproof theft deterrent and bit just about every one of his employees, loved me... I actually saw him bite one of my uncle's employees on the hand and break the skin, and the employee smacked Ranger on the snout and said "Don't you bite me, motherfucker." Ranger didn't bite this employee a second time or go into full-on attack mode, probably because he was scared.

I was terrified of Ranger the first couple times I saw him, but then he suddenly started following me around and rubbing against me one day when my dad and I went over there to visit probably 2 or 3 years after he'd been "hired" as the on-site security system. My cousin (uncle's daughter who is now a vet tech; no surprise there) was there that day too, and my uncle had taught us both how to use the sandblasting machine. We were taking turns sandblasting an alloy wheel from an early 90s Volvo. Ranger calmly stand there while I scratched his rump, and never once did he show any aggression...

My uncle and my dad warned me to stay away from Ranger after I was caught scratching Ranger's back, because my uncle said he was unpredictable, and both of them thought he would bite me. Ranger was not my uncle's dog, but rather he was owned by yet another employee who lived in the apartment on the third floor of the hubcap store. My uncle's hubcap store was once a house in another lifetime, built in about the 1930s or 1940s.

This employee/tenant had gotten Ranger from a friend who found out early on he was too unpredictable to keep at home and gave him away... Since the employee was literally the hand that fed Ranger, he was seen as the alpha dog. Even my uncle avoided contact with Ranger, except to feed him, give him water, and let him in and out to do his business. During business hours, Ranger was kept chained up right outside the shop so nobody would steal shit when the shop was unattended. When the shop was closed, Ranger was kept in the garage. This dog was capable of killing any burglar dumb enough to break in, but he loved me...

When I saw Ranger being so nice to my cousin, my stress level decreased and I was no longer afraid of him. Ranger also probably knew that I was not aggressive like the employee he drew blood from the one time. I would never leave Ranger alone with kids or anyone who doesn't have experience with dogs, but my relationship with him is proof not only that all animals and not just dogs can sense fear, but also that even the meanest attack dog can have a heart...

Here's something random but cool. This photo is from mid-2007, 2 years before my Taco was manufactured, 4 years before I FINALLY got my license, and more than 8 years before the drunk hit me. That's me in the Meat Loaf shirt, aged 18 and not even out of high school yet. The townhouse you see under construction in the 2007 photo is the very same house I took the photos in the driveway of less than 12 hours after the accident in October 2015...

Bicycles are classified like motor vehicles in Pennsylvania, so the family wouldn't have a leg to stand on...

A year or so ago, I mentioned that I swapped factory keys with my mom because the key I'd used since we bought the truck in 2009 suddenly stopped locking the truck. It would unlock and start the truck no problem, but after I used it to have two copies made at Home Depot (specifically the one on Route 611 in Warrington), the factory key seemed to be blunted. Last December, I realized I'd lost the copy again, and went back to Home Depot (again the Warrington store) to make one from the OEM key I traded my mom for. Now, I've noticed that this factory key is starting to have the same problem. It will start and UNLOCK my Tacoma with no problem, but it is starting to require a bit of force to lock the truck at times. If I ever need a key made again, I'll use the one I gave my mom.

May have gotten one copy of the Taco key made at the True Value next to the K-Mart in the shopping center next to what will soon be the former Keenan Motors (Mercedes-Benz dealer) in Doylestown. Can't remember though.

Does this situation seem familiar to anybody?
