I have read numerous posts about failing windsheilds on the new tacomas.

I have experienced it now with over 10 chips and lots of scratching from washing with microfiber cloths.

I want to get toyota aware of this to cover repairs and replacements. Can we get anybody that has had a issue with there's to comment on post with their name and year of truck.

I have a 2015 and it is the shittiest window I've owned one vehicle. I have 5 chips in under a year and they are so small they can't be filled. Hey they cut my wipers and Toyota won't realize it may be an issue. Might just bite the bullet and get it replaced through a glass friend of mine and be done with it.

Maybe the replacement glass will be better. Under my insurance it's like $25. I owned a jeep before the Taco and that brick shaped bitch went through about a windshield a year.

3 weeks into ownership (14xx miles) first time using the defroster I watched a Crack form from drivers side bottom corner roughly 16" diagonally. No previous chips or scratches. About 20* outside, although the truck had seen -25* (just no defroster action) We need an option to vote for "crack". 20170110_075037.jpg

For a split second I thought this was some kind of bird you hit and that this was a screen shot from a video moments before it went through your windshield.

My windshield cracked badly within 5 weeks of ownership - and I didn't even SEE anything hit it. Just heard a "pop" when using the defrost and within minutes it spidered all the way to each side. Had it replaced with another OEM windshield, but now every time I hear the slightest "pop" on the road I half expect my windshield to crack again. Supposedly has something to do with the reduced wind noise of the acoustic glass combined with the tight fit. when the glass company came to replace mine, they both commented on how ridiculously tight-fitting that windshield is compared to other makes/models.

1.25 years of ownership and 2 windsheilds replaced as well as 6-8 chips in the current one. A grain of rice could chip/crack this thing... i have glass coverage for 100$ a year and 50$ deductible well worth it for this truck. Instead of 4-800 for a replacement. Last windsheild i had done 3ish months ago and no aftermarket available. Had to get oe.

My dodge has had 2 replacemts in 18 years...

I had a windshield chip and repair company work for me a few years back and they told me Toyota use a really soft glass which makes it more prone to damage. They also targeted Toyota owners more often lol. The rake of the window also plays a big part like the Prius with its super raked windshield is less prone to rock chips yet its still the same soft glass.

My Wrangler has small pits all over the place but the Tacoma being much newer with less mileage looks about the same.
My old 2004 T4R looks straight sand blasted after 140K miles.
The wife's 2010 Prius looks like normal wear and tear

Keeping the windshield clean and changing the wiper blades yearly helps prevent scratches

Chip happened when no car was infront of me. Christmas day. Within 30minutes it was 8 inches long. Next morning it spanned the entire winshield.
4month old 2016 at the time.

    I have a Gashole
    1800 miles.
When I heard it hit all I could think of was Tommy Boy....
"Thats going to leave a mark"
I used a chip repair kit to stop it from spreading. It's barely noticeable now but it still has some small spidering.
Hopefully it will put replacement off for a bit.
I had a chip with spidering in my 2nd gen and it took about 2 years before it spread across the window. It was a 2010 with the windshield replaced for the first time in 2015.
Just my luck, didn't make it 2 months in the 2017.:frusty:

Man your impact looks bigger than mine. How'd it not spread?
My pic above was 30min after I heard it hit.

I wonder if the ones that are cracking without any chips are in some kind of body bind, for example the ones that have a bad cab mount may be slightly twisted.

    I have a Gashole
That picture was taken as soon as I got home, about 30-40 minutes later. It's about the size of a dime.
I repaired it 2 days later. The small amount of spidering extends to the edge of the original damage. Keeping my fingers crossed it will buy some time before it spreads.
Since then I have had a few additional rocks hit with tiny nicks in the glass.
Here is a pic of the repair.

    IMG_4265.jpg

Why would you say that. Reality is this glass seems to get much worse damage from rocks compared to previous gens manufacturers glass based on a much smaller sample size. My Gen 2 got hit by many rocks and it had a single spidered crack for several years in the temperature extremes of Arizona before it finally spread.
Arizona is one of the windshield replacement capitals in the US. Rocks fly everywhere here. A huge contributor is the heavy use of landscape rock along all of the major roads and highways.
I went thru 2 windshields in my F350 in the course of 6 months due to just being in the wrong place at the right time.
That is what I attribute my windshield to. The rock that hit mine would have done damage to any windshield. I am just astounded at the level of damage.
