I've done a mod or two
The UCAs allow greater travel, downward for sure and they give you positive caster for easier steering. Really the downtravel is only an issue with extended coilovers and the caster is only needed if you can't already achieve the proper alignment numbers.

Been a minute since I got in here. I removed the plastic bed liner, and the bed was beat up a little more than I was hoping for, but rust free, so it's all good. Hopefully I will be rolling in the herculiner tomorrow.

Lucked out and found a used UWS toolbox locally and picked it up today.

Also have reverse lights and bed lights that need to go in, going to try and repair the DS door lock actuator, new door speakers and such also. Other than that the only short term plans are wheels and tires

Got one good layer of herculiner rolled in today. Application is not difficult, but the prep work definitely takes some time. I read somewhere that the roller that comes with the kit sucks, thats pretty accurate. I gave up on it after it came apart not even a third of the way through. I dabbed the rest with the included brush which works well, but takes some time. Ill probably add some more once this first layer is good and dry, i noticed a few thin spots so a second layer will definitely go on.

Well I've been slacking and my wife just gave birth to our son on april fools day so thats taken some time as well. Got my UWS toolbox in the back of the truck, still need to add another layer of herculiner on a lot of the bed, but oh well.

Attempted to take apart the door lock mechanism today and couldn't get the door handle connecting rod to pop out of the door handle mech for some reason so got frustrated and gave up on that.

Had some old focal 6.5 coax speakers I was going to put in the door, but naturally the factory 6x8 and crazy mount didn't allow for an easy adapter, will have to get some MDF to make adapters I guess. I did however slap some sound deadening on the driver door while I had the panel off, so hopefully this next week I'll be able to knock some of those items off of the list.

Lastly ill be getting a new set of tires this week as the truck will see some 280 mile trips to work since I'm selling my jetta back to VW

I'm sorry I know this is old and someone else's build thread , but I gotta check I could have sworn that my trucks rear locker was locked when I turned on my 4hi

Not the factory e locker. You have to go into 4lo and then you can engage it using the button. 4 hi you are have lim slip front and rear.

Really?! So the grey wire mod gives you lsd in front and locked in the rear?!

I'd imagine the locker only works in 4low cause you damage it when your locked and going fast? Any idea what speed is to much to be using the locker?

You might have the grey wire mod.
The grey wire mod let's you turn the locker on anytime you want. Changing the wire doesn't magically change the differentials. Our trucks don't have LSD. They're either just in 4wd, locked, or open. Also you can go as fast as you want with the locker on. You just have to turn it on and off at about a full stop.

Got my UWS toolbox mounted and put some new tires on today, stayed with 265/75-16's as I know they fit with zero rub on the stock wheels. They look a little bit on the small side, but with the extended highway miles this truck has the potential to see over the next few months I'm ok with it. I'll be keeping my eye out for some nice black wheels for the future when I go up to 33's.

Still haven't gotten my DS door lock actuator going. Switch is definitely good, and I put a new motor in the actuator body myself, so I think I have a wiring harness issue somewhere.

Is your locker still working flawlessly? Only reason I ask is cause I finished a tear down and rebuild on mine. Light flashed every time I tried using it. It now works great every time

Last time I used the locker it worked great! I probably should activate it more often.

Not much of an update, but blew the inner boot on the driver side cv axle. Got it replaced, as well as drained and filled the front diff. No metal shavings, but definitely dirty so I'm not mad for doing it. Still slacking on pics of the toolbox in the bed (sorry)

Not much for updates, still chasing a lame clunk in the front end. Happens mostly when hitting a dip in the road. Thinking it may be the sway bar end links and I may just remove the sway bar all together.

Ended up doing both CV axles since the boots were torn and did the driver side lower BJ today, was gonna do the passenger side also, but some sever muscle pain in the back kept me from being as productive as I should have been

So this is all I've done on my truck here lately, just some good ol' PM work. Developed a clunk in the front, drivers side I believe, thats been driving me nuts so I basically went on a crusade on the front of the truck. Pretty much everything that had a boot, was torn, and got replaced. Here is a pile of the parts that were removed/replaced. Hopefully this solves the clunk, didn't get to drive it tonight because I didn't want to wake up my infant. Will find out in the morning.

Have you checked the lower shock bushings? Mine were worn out and would clunk hitting dips and bumps. Something to check out...

They were replaced when I put my lift kit on. I'm now pretty certain it's the body mount bushings.

The front end of the truck is now much tighter and doesn't drive like a 260xxx mile truck near like it did.
