Onboard Pressurized Water System for the 2005-Current Toyota Tacoma OBW

Using water port as a tank for this system or as an alternative? Its kinda a system in itself already.

 

I thought about it, but like you said, it's basically already a system, and you can find tanks bigger/better shaped to store for much cheaper.

 

Yeah exactly my thoughts. If you like waterport style bettee then this system, it wouldnt make sense to have both really. You could, but seems redundant in a way. A separate water storage would be cheaper and hold more then the water port. But thats exactly the upside to this seems... versatility and how each user can make it unique to their particular needs and setup and the ability to take more or less water as needed per trip

 

It is a system within itself, but you can feel it without pressure and I would think you could hook up a pump like this.

 

Yeah you could, you're not wrong, but its an entire waste of money. Like I pointed out before, you can easily locate a better sized tank and mount points for it than the Waterport for much cheaper

 

Yea I read that earlier and totally agreed with you. It was just a thought not really an action I was going to take. If I knew I was going to have the bed drawer/platform in my truck I would have not got the WaterPORT and integrated a water tank/pump into it.

lol I'll have to see how the water pressure is and go from there. The thought is to add a hot water heater as well. Maybe. I'm ok with cold too.

 

Would it be possible to hook this up to one of those small rv faucets? I would be interested in using a small swing out faucet tap to fill pots when cooking on the tailgate and dont need the coil hose or gun.

 

If you get creative with mounting the faucet then you can certainly hook it up..the pump outputs a 3/8 line, which I have added the quick connect on the end. In this case, the quick connect would be removed and replaced with a.connection to match your faucet hookup.. easier to do then explain.

 

I finished my setup a while ago and while I haven't used it in the wild yet, the tests were all great. Should be very useful on an upcoming month-long road trip to Death Valley & Moab. Just placed an order for that Camp Chef Triton water heater, too.

As part of wiring other goodies for my truck, I drilled a series of holes in the bed (right where the intake/outake fittings from this kit are similarly mounted), and I've never been crazy about that setup as I generally dislike drilling holes in parts that can't be easily/cheaply replaced. The other day a lightbulb went off in my head: I should have drilled all my holes inside the storage compartment/cubby, and fed the wires out from there. The cubby is simple to replace, and can be found cheap online. Mounting the fittings from this OBW system in that cubby could also work well - an idea for future installers.

 

Great feedback. With other feedback i got, many people chose to put the switch in the pocket as well. Seems like a common trend. Let us know how the hot watee works out. Glad you like it so far
