Just ran out of time - literally just got the rear on the night before we left. But even with the jerry cans I'd still have to stop to put gas in so I may as well stop at a gas station and fill up - we're taking the interstate all the way out so finding one isn't an issue.

Buy a decent jerry can and easily and safely carry an additional 20L instead of trying to squeeze an extra litre into the tank for basically no extended range

I know... old thread, but i just wanted to say, this was a huge help im answering my question. I also have an 03 F250 6.0 diesel truck and i recently did what they call on the powerstroke forum "harpooning" of the fuel tank, which basically entailed removing the sending unit, reaching inside and cutting about 12" off the fill inlet tube that protruded into the tank... this allowed me to put an additional almost 3 or 4 gallons of fuel in the truck which was a big plus. I was hoping to do this to my Taco.... looks like that wont be happening. Thanks for a good thread.

I just don't do it because I think the meter ends up wracking up $$ for gas not going in the tank. IDK what all this shit is about charcoal canisters or other things going wrong. Someone is going to have to explain the science on that one because it sounds completely made up.

1 extra gallon won't make a difference. So I wouldn't worry about it.
