I've noticed my Tacoma has started dieseling at times when I shut it down. I wonder if this has any relation to the misfire issue or what could be causing it.

No, the issue will come back once you switch back to 87 E10.

Dieseling? Holy fuck that's not good...my 1970 chevy running on only 7 cylinders does that but a 2016 Fuel Injected engine? Is that even possible.

Yes it's like a slight run-on or stumble after I push the button to kill the motor. Weird.

Yeah I'm with Nevadabugle, how does that even happen on a modern EFI engine? Unless it's got something to do with the pushbutton start weirdness.
I will tell you that there's a different (but maybe related) little quirk that happens to me at startup, but ONLY when the truck has been shut down for a short time - it will start so quickly that the starter winds up before my melon realizes what's going on and I release the key. Sounds like there's a bit of unburned gas/vapour in the cylinders at shutdown. Anyway, just thought I'd relate..

So you're right, after a few gallons of fuel burned, I haven't had any issues. Well, except for the whole paying $2.89 for non-ethanol vs $2.15 87 E10.

Don't know if can afford boat gas for my truck and my boat!!!

So if in fact that the issue is going away with a non-ethanol fuel, what can we contribute the issue to? If we can narrow it down, then we might be able to fix it on our own. Any suggestions?

Just got done checking the trans fluid level myself. Guess what, nothing came out, not even a drip!!!!! This is after the dealership added a quart, field tech came and rode with me, 10 trips to the dealership. I wish I would have checked it myself after the dealership added the fluid. Now I have 6000 miles on the truck driving around with low fluid. For all that are having issues with this, please check the level yourself. It is not hard. I used a paperclip to connect the 4 and 13 port of the obd11 port, shifted from n to d 3 times ( i thought it was 6 but it did it at 3), the d, n, r, p, light will go off, thats how you know you are in check mode. It took approximately 25 minutes for it to go into check mode from a cold start first thing this morning. Now I tried calling corporate and the field tech but no ones home being Sunday. Tomorrow is going to be interesting to say the least!

Any updates from anyone? I tried the ethanol and cant say it really helped. It was only one tank though. I think I will try to check my tranny fluid level myself too. I has the dealer do it and they added a tad, but I don't trust them.

Mine does this too, but I don't really care cuz it does not post any codes on my scanner. To get rid of that, just give it more throttle to unlock from the torque converter and raise RPM.

With ect and s mode combined, it keeps cruising rpms above the surging point and generally makes life in this truck much more pleasant. Not a solution for you stick owners but I'm actually running 87 e10 right now and not bothered at all because these modes prevent the conditions where the surge occurs.

Any new on a fix for this? I'm in need of service and about to take the truck in. I'd love if Toyota came up with a fix to have this issue behind me so I can enjoy the truck.

Ethanol free is what I have found fixed this. I know it's not a real fix but it does make it go away.

Yeah I get that and it's awesome this community has figured it out, I'm very appreciative. I just wondering when Toyota will come up with a fix. Ive made a stink of it every time I go in for service, but nothing every happens. I was hoping maybe a new map or reprogram has come out.
