I'm looking into getting a lift on my taco I'm just wondering if rough country is decent I'm really not sure if they are. Because I know they give off a lifetime warranty which is huge but they are also super cheap compared to competitors. Really makes me wonder lets hear some thoughts and who ever has had one or has one atm please share.
    Thanks

I would stay away from a dB lift but that's just me.

It's lifetime because it's just metal brackets.

Call Marie at @HeadStrong Off-Road and get a real suspension system.

TWBros don't let TWBros cut crossmembers. Say no to drop bracket lifts!

How much Marie pays to you guys to answer this way in every lift question? ;)

Rough Country is fine, update it (later) if you want. I have 6" (only parts of it, lowered to lift 4"). No cutting in FJ, but in Tacoma there is.

Drop bracket style lift gives real space for the bigger tires, maintaining health suspension and steering geometry. Most 3" lifts reduce droop by 2-3", meaning there is only 1-2" left. With drop bracket lift you still have 4-5" left. No fear of the dreaded clunk of it bottoming on rebound.

Stay away from rough country lifts, they are cheep because they are made from cheep material and unreliable. Put a little extra money in a good lift that will last the lifetime of the vehicle and won't leave you stranded on the side of the road. ProComp lifts are where I would go if you wanted to not spend a gob of money. They make some of the best lifts out there.

A 4" lift will be cheeper in the end run because with a 6" lift you have to start worrying about getting a one piece driveshaft and upgrading other components to the suspension like upper control arms and what not. But if you were to go 6" you could fit the 33 with little to no rubbing. In my opinion the 33's look perfect on tacoma's, they also handle better because you have the wider with, they also have more traction, more options for sizing in the market, and more tread patterns to pick from, ext. You probably could get away with the 33 on a 4" lift but it would rub a lot, so trimming would be necessary.

What's "cheep" material or cheap material, how you define the material quality/strength without laboratory?

Maybe cheep wasn't the best word to use, but when you install lift kits for a living you learn real quick what is junk and what is quality. With the RoughCountry kits they would have brackets not completely welded, bolt holes not lining up, grid brackets to make fit and if it was a kit with springs the truck/jeep sat uneven and road like a tank. We NEVER had these issues with ProComp, BDS,CST, Rancho and Skyjacker. The shop owner got to where he wouldn't let the R/C kits in his shop, even if a customer brought a R/C kit in for us to install he wouldn't let us install it. A lot of shops sell it because its priced cheap. Wait till the R/C kits get a few years old and the welds and metal are splitting. Not all R/C kits have these problems but most of the ones we saw did. Save your money and buy one of the other kits mentioned.

Offroad magazine reviewed the Rough Country lift I put on one of my previous trucks and gave it high marks. I installed it on my Chevy 2500. Probs from the start. Customer service just ran me around in circles. After some internet searching I found those kits were notoriously bad. It rode so bad, I sold the truck.

My previous 05 Taco; a local off road shop sold me a spacer lift because when the 2nd gens were first release that was all there was. It also rode so bad I finally did Icon coilovers. On my 2nd Tacoma with Icons and have been very happy so far. Prob a total of 10 years and 2 Tacos on Icons.

I just need more ground clearance and slightly bigger tires. Dont need to sit higher than the next guy.

My lessons learned for whatever its worth.

I have had Rough Country lift 4.5 years, 70tml, no problems. I never installed the shocks (heard that they ride harsh) and springs which came in the kit and modified it a little for my needs. The spindles were not painted, so I painted them with POR15.

I'd go the same route again. Good and cheap base for a drop bracket lift.

Listen to this guy... Drop brackets are not worth the money and the cutting of the crossmember. If ya wanna sit high and fit big tires, get a full size truck

No cutting in FJ (RC 6" kit).
