Just ordered and received my 4th pair of these.. If anybody's hunting a rock solid boot, I highly recommend these. La Sportiva Omega GTX. Out of the box comfort no real break in. FYI However they probably are on the narrow side.

I bought my first pair at REI on sale about three years ago for around 120ish, like them so much picked up the last pair REI had in stock in that size in the country..
So I decided a couple weeks ago to get two more pair a half size bigger for thicker sock wearing.. I got them for 134~107 after coupon code off Amazon.. They're normally 240plus. And La Sportiva isn't making them anymore.

My first pair are still in great condition thru three years of almost daily wearing. Not to mention the tread itself has hardly any wear, I'm really surprised.

LaSportiva uses Cibram rubber. High quality shit.
For most folks, a boot is overkill, much less as daily wear.

(I have several of their shoes and trail runners and love them!)

I believe it weighs in between 3-4 lbs but I'm not 100% sure. It's hard to find a published weight online, but I think I remember from someone's YouTube video that's what they said.

The Gränsfors Small Forest Axe is divine! Pricey, yes...but epic quality. I thought I'd treat myself for my birthday :)

You mean Vibram, think you missed a key . Yeah killer soles, Don't think out of all the boots and shoes I've had thru the years anything holds up like these.. My number ones with these boots have all but no wear on the soles.

And yeah I agree boot is overkill for most.. I will say tho, these particular boots are comfortable enough to wear daily but tuff enough for pretty much whatever.

That's not bad for that pack. Haha I see a small axe and wanna call it a hatchet. I like that setup.

I watched a documentary of sorts a couple of years ago about a place in Europe that made axes , I think it may have been about Gränsfors. I wish I could find it again it was really cool video..
It pays to buy quality things. You'll have it from here on out as long as you don't lose it or abuse it.

This has me really excited about the summer. I didn't know about this service. I'm playing with their maps a bit. I'll post a better map when I tweak things a bit more.

It's pretty awesome. I've camped up there in everything from a small travel trailer to tents. My first trip up there was in the mid 80's (I was in HS). My best friend's father bought this beat up old 14' travel trailer and did just enough repair work on it so it would work. We hauled that sucker with a 2WD Ford Ranger. I remember I got stuck in that small back jump seat for the 5+ hour drive. The roads back then weren't nearly as well maintained as they are now and I still can't believe what that Ranger & trailer made it through. He was a good driver and took his time. We made it to our site on Round Pond and had a great 4 day bird hunting trip.

To this day that trip reminds me of how careful driving is more important than using 4WD.

Was supposed to be in Big Bend now but my buddy had to drop out due to a death in the family. I decided to save my PTO since I have already been this year.

I am thinking of going back and doing some stuff in southern Utah in mid-April, and probably heading to Zion again.

Thinking Buckskin Gulch/Paria Canyon area, Vermilion Cliffs NM/GSENM area, and Zion again.

Maybe do a southern route drive and go thru Sedona/Flagstaff/Grand Canyon too. I'd probably be solo though so it would be a ton of driving. But we will see!

I have a Kelty Redwing 2600, I find the size to be in this weird zone it's too big for a day pack and just a bit too small for an overnight. After shoving in the sleeping bag, there just isn't enough room. How does 2900 cubic inches compare?

I don't know why I didn't think of this before. So, I like to carry some Coleman bio-wipes when I go on long trips. For that, you know, "fresh" feeling after a good dump or just as a pit wipedown or "other" areas that need freshening. I like that they fully decompose within 21 days when buried in topsoil, too. I pack them out when I can. I find them important enough to my hygiene to carry them backpacking, but I always frowned at the weight when I was reviewing my pack list.

So, after fighting to keep them sealed and moist, I decided to just let them dry out intentionally. After doing so, they now weigh only .05oz per wipe! I usually carry 2-3 for each day, so carrying the full 30-pack in a quart Ziploc weighs only 1.7oz. When I need to use one, I take just one out of the bag and splash a tiny bit of water on it to rehydrate it, and the cleansing soap is already there ready to go. Done and done.

Massdrop has Zpacks Duplex and Triplex tents for $40 off right now. Good until March 6. If you're on the fence about getting a superior Zpacks tent product, now is the time. The Duplex makes a fantastic solo tent, but will fit 2 people snug. Get the Triplex if you're wanting a more space appropriate 2-person experience.

Sorry. Don't mean to laugh. Oh who am I kidding. I'm laughing! I just kind of thought you would have had that figured out long by now.

Enough room for my tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, seat pad, food, 3 water bottles, rain gear, headlamp, small axe, and misc. sundries. For me just perfect for a weekend trip. For anything longer I'd go bigger.

Monday they said the replacement is going out "Today". Tracking showed that it did not leave the warehouse till Wednesday, and it's supposed to be at the PO on Monday, that means I can get it Tuesday. The CS teams seemed to be really busy. A lot of returns? Or just sales?

I have a return shipping label they gave me.

How much is saving money worth? May rethink CampSaver next time.

I have had good luck with CampSaver. Bought some Salomon shoes and my MH Ghost Whisperer from them. I know that returns can be an interesting process, though. I had a hell of a time getting my refund (it just took forever) on an item I recently returned that was an Amazon Warehouse Deal. The seller was a third party of course, though.
