Guys I check back here from time to time and I am very glad to see this thread has help so many people. I love the insulation/ sound dampening stuff and the pics are great. I also like the idea of the NMO mount where the XM antenna was. I did this write-up because i was requested after I had pulled my liner down to run wiring for all the lights on roof rack. Anyway, thanks for the compliments, comments and interest.

Is the headline cardboard. ? I'm afraid it might get bent or ruined pulling it out to sound deadened

I think its a fabric backed by a semi rigid polymer. Its not card board so you can bend it but I would not bend it so much that is creates a crease. I have seen a writeup here on TW where someone almost folded it in half to get it our of the truck and it was fine but i do not know what thread that was. I think that if you careful you should be ok. I would fold the seats flat and lower the liner onto the seats then sort of roll it from one side and slide it out the rear door.

Is it possible to just drop the rear part of the headliner easily without creasing it? I hit my XM antenna on my garage door and want to look underneath it to make sure it's still sealed or possibly replace it.

HeyHo, I think you will need to drop the who thing to be able to access the mounting bolts for the XM antenna; however you may be able to get away with just dropping the rear by starting at the back and you may need to free everything up to the dome light. If you do not want to mess with the head liner I would just fill any cracks in the antenna fin with a paintable silicone and paint it black. Which ever you decide, good luck.

The antenna isn't cracked. It just scraped the bottom of my garage door while backing out and popped up a little from the back side. Now there's a tiny gap between the back of the antenna and the roof but no other damage. The Toyota dealer's paint guy said he thinks it's fine but I just wanted to look to make sure myself so water doesn't come in through the gap. (don't trust the dealer)

Subbed AF for this, for when I decided to add RAAMmat to my roof.

Thought it was harder than this to remove the headliner. Making me feel better about tackling it by myself now.

    Nice job sir!

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. You will need to fix the gap. There is a hole in the roof under the antenna that the wire goes through. If I recall, the whole was like 1.5 inches and the wire is only a 1/4 inch so there is a lot of room for water to come in and soak the liner. Let me know if your hole is different but mine was a large hole. I may have a picture of the whole on my build page from when I ran all the roof rack lights.

Id take the Sat antenna off and find an oring to fit under it to seal it off around the hole....

Old headliner out. If you look closely you can see all the cracks, creases and it was just plain filthy.

great writeup. the dent repair guy needed to access the inside of the roof so this made it easy for me to have it ready for him to do his job. Thanks.

Did roof racks happen to cause your dents? I have some above the doors on my DCSB from my Thule racks and I'm thinking of having the dents repaired.

OP. Once the headliner is removed do you recall if the space above the doors is reserved for wiring and curtain airbags? (I think I saw it was pretty busy in that area in someone's sound deadening post) Trying to get an idea of how dent removal would access the dents. Thanks for your efforts.

lack of roof racks caused my dents :) I was using a couple of cushions between the roof and the canoe and the roof wouldn't hold it.

once the visor, handle, side airbag thingy and inside window side corner trim is off the headliner pulls right down for easy access for your dent guy.

Thank you for posting this! HUGE help. I had to pull the interior out of a 2013 to cut out the cab for a camper walk through and you saved me hours!

Thank you also, for this write-up. It's just as applicable to the Access Cabs, and i had my roofliner out of the truck within an hour - I was running up against sun-down for timing.
