emmisions is the biggest reason on 9:1. I'm stuck running the stock ecu until I get out of the county I'm in. 9:1 will run fine with stock ecu and still leave me a window to make a fair bit of power once I do go standalone and turbo. The old engine I pulled out will get the same treatment as this one, but it will be running stand alone and I want to break 1000 with it. Goal is to have the truck running by summer, currently getting block ready to go out (finally) and I just got one of the new heads. Next one will be here next month most likely.

Also for the turbo, when I do do it I'll likely make my own manifolds. I have a lot of sanitary grade stainless 300 series pipe laying around from 1.5" to 2.5".

What are your goals for your Tacoma? Long term? Think you're built for 4x4 right?

The Tacoma is probably not going to see the off roading it use to see, but end goal is a sleeper basically. HP goal, to start, 300 at the wheels is fine for a while, that's when i'll shift focus on to the old engine, But once it goes turbo Its where ever i feel is good enough. The transmission is going to be overbuilt and I'm looking into putting a 4runner transfercase in with the center differential to allow it to drive in 4WD, but thats not set in stone yet. To tell you the truth, I bought the supercharger without thinking I'd have a rusted out lug and id just be able to slap it on, so I'm just going with the flow on this one.

But to cut it short, Taco will have hopefully over 300 at the wheels with the super, god knows what with a turbo And the old engine once its magnafluxed and built will be the real toy, I'm determined to make a 5vz a monster.
The Taco was my first vehicle, so shes around to stay and will likely go through revisions over the years.

Awesome work man. these engines are bulletproof.
Even with so many miles, it looks clean.

The basic machine work isn't too bad but I'm going to have him flow the heads and do some other little things to get a wee bit more out of the engine. I'm also living with a pay check that is completely dependant on how much work comes through the dealerships door. It's been slow for months and I have tool bills to pay plus insurance.

Oh hell yeah. Sucks about the income, hopefully it'll turn around here soon. Can't wait to see this truck at high output. I keep turning my boost up and the power just keeps rising with no signs of detonation at 11.5 and richer. I'm definitely a believer in the high boost high fuel methodology. Its crazy how much more timing the ecu cuts at 6 psi and 13 afrs than at 12 psi and 11 afrs.

Valve train came in! LCE Pro valve train kit. Dual valve springs, viton valve seals titanium retainers, shim under bucket followers (still probably using shimless buckets) Stainless valves and the keepers.

Nice, those are rated up to 8,000 rpm correct? This truck is going to be no joke!

Just an update. Still not dead. But engine parts are all in. Minus pistons, waiting for Machinest to have time to do it still. Currently getting other parts sorted (new oem steering rack, some body panels for the eventual body work). Will be pulling front diff once I get back from the Indy 500 to clean it up and re-seal it all. Money's been tight but it's getting a little better. Was hoping to have it done by now but life happens. may run it 2wd for a bit with a used transmission so I can get the original built up for the engine.

Also looking into the possibility of my body guy grafting on a 4Runner hood scoop to this truck, may or may not make it functional if I can determine a way to do it.

Hey there, saw your post in the "What have you done...." where you mentioned that you pulled the front diff, spindles and that you're planning on installing new wheel bearings. May I ask if you're doing the work yourself or taking it to a shop that has as press? I'm in the same boat and don't know if I should attempt to do it myself or just pay a shop to press the old ones out and press the new ones back in. Thanks.

My press at work can't do it. But my father has access to a press that can. So he's going to try and do it for me. They're not hard to do. It's just having a press that can do it. Big thing is keep the bearing straight and support the bearing when pressing in the hub.

    Looks like fun.

What's the purpose of the 3vz crank? Shorter stroke?
