What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

All of this. That's the same tool I used too and it worked great when I added an aux panel to my tool box.




Great tool for the price. I guess I'll pick up some 2 or 4 and some lugs. I don't really wanna go to the gm alt without having the wires upgraded to take the juice.

 

I don't recall if we actually took any bolts out or not. I know we did loosen some cushioning bolt or some such to allow the diff to drop some. And something else. Either way, it was still tricky getting the thing past the steering rack, but it was definitely easier putting the other one on, I guess since we knew what way to go.

Ah, having room. Definitely a nice benefit of a smaller engine.

 

I had a awful knock/chatter when accelerating so I cleaned my MAF which took care of it but I noticed a small bit of green/corrosion on it. Something to worry about? I also found this bad boy in my tire this morning.. not a good way to start the week

 

About 5 days worth of work. Got my new front diff in (ARB, 4.88), plummed ARB, 2" King bumps, redid limit straps, 90° down resi outputs, cleaned up shocks.
Looking sexy as f....... Next stop will be triple bypass secondaries and re shimming the coilovers. Might be a few months before that happens.

Yep, soldering high amperage connectors is at the bottom of the pile. Along with the conductive properties of "cold weld" the connection is mechanically maintained. It will not fall out and say, start a fire when the solder melts as you winch your way up K2.
Soldered high amp connections are not allowed under the national electric code for that very reason.

 

This too, along with thick wall lugs intended for crimping and correctly sized for the wire.

 

ive looked and i can only find a write up on a 2nd gen tacoma, is it the same roughly on wiring and is the part out of the 4runner the same ?

 

What's the word on CVJ racks? I've heard good things regarding 2nd Gens, need some input from those who installed on 1st Gen. My rack is a poppin' and a clunkin'

 

Darn, that sucks. I would not take it to a chain tire shop (Goodyear Dunn...) if you want to get it repaired. The industry rule is that you can not fix a tire that has a puncture closer than a thumbs width from the sidewall. I would personally use a rope style plug but if you want to go the absolute safest route, replacing the tire would be the way to go.

 

Did you get that out of a 4Runner?

I have had mine for a couple years now, and still going strong. Just make sure you send the core back in a timely manner and that you put your info on the box. I sent mine back a couple months later after receiving the new rack. Time went by and I did not receive my core refund. They said they received a box but with no info. (Shiping label had my info...)
Long story short, I'm out a couple hundred bucks. Live and learn..

 

Thanks for the info, Moose. I'm located in the Denver area, so getting everything to and from shouldn't be an issue. I'm just curious how they hold up and if it's a good alternative to OEM.

 

So I'm getting 10ft of 2 AWG, and 10 lugs, and going to run a 150 amp CS-144 from a vette I found. Should be good to go, correct?

 

You can't beat oem, but I do think CVJ does quality rebuilds. Though you are running 35's, and that can put a lot of stress on steering components. It might be worth it to spend a little extra now and go oem.
