Aftermarket carrier bearings/center support bearings?

Took less than one year for my $40 Anchor bearing from ebay to go bad. Squeaky squealing. I live in a dry climate and hardly ever cross water. A couple times when it dumped rain. At Oreillys they sell a rebrand of the Anchor by the name of Precision Center Supports. Same part # and warranty length for $86. At Advance auto they sell the Anchor branded bearing for $86. Pep boys sells Dorman bearing for $57 but only 1 year warranty. Oreillys sells Beck/Arnley bearing for same price but only 3 year warranty. I'm going to go through a physical seller this time, because I can exchange it easier and get a replacement on the spot. I sent Anchor an email seeing if they will honor warranty. Doubt it. For a little more should I just go OEM? Wheres the cheapest Toyota online dealer to get it from so I can have my dealer pricematch? These were the cheapest I found, at double the price its why I am still considering getting another Anchor bearing because maybe it being from an ebay seller wasn't a great idea (hard to beat $40).

I discovered that Spicer makes OEM carrier bearings and if you want to save some money you should buy Spicer branded ones. The part numbers for Spicer carrier support bearings are:
2WD: 5002334
4WD: 5002007

Interesting note on the Spicer bearings is that there are Toyota part numbers on them. The 5002334 bearing has Toyota part #37230-0K040. Drivetrain America, which sells the 5002007 says its a replacement for Toyota part #37230-0K030, which is what is needed for 4WD. Having ordered the 2WD one by mistake, I ordered the 4WD one as well. The dimensions look identical. The only difference is the ends of the bearings on the inside. The 2007 bearing has a different Toyota part # however. It says Toyota 37235-35030, which after research has led me to believe its an OEM part number for overseas, probably a Hilux/Hilux Surf. Also there are differences in origin. 2334 is made in India while 2007 is made in Brazil. Also on the opposite side, the 2334 has Spicer, 5002334 and 4x2 on it but the 2007 has nothing more identifying it as a Spicer part with no Spicer part number, nor a 4x4 marking. As far as quality differences, the India made 2334 looks to be using a nicer looking rubber, mainly it seems to identify it clearly as a Toyota OEM product. Also the metal seems to have a nicer finish. Moving the bearing in my hands, I can feel no difference. Both smooth and quiet. Comparing the 2007 to part #37230-0K030 shows it looking exactly the same.

Onto the main differences and this may be why one is 2WD and one is 4WD, looking directly at the cap around the outside of the bearing, inside of the rubber.

Another carrier bearing option is the factory carrier bearing from Dana holding corp in which you can get through rockauto.com for $52.79. Just search under 2005 Toyota Tacoma, for some reason it doesn't come up for other years but it's the same part number - 5002334.
I got one for my 2011 Tacoma DCSB and the damn thing even has Toyota stamped in the rubber bushing. Don't use the Dorman carrier bearing that thing is crap!

Member nj636 said he has installed Spicer 5002334 on his 2006 TRD OR with 4WD. Cheapest I found OEM center bearing part# 37230-35130 was $162.91 shipped at toyotaonlineparts.com which your dealer should price match, since its an online parts store for McGeorge Toyota in Richmond, VA. Being that what I have read is that OEM center bearings are Spicer, so thats a $100 saving for equal quality. Spicer is what I have and no problems .

 

Same here went back to the Spicer carrier bearing for DCSB 4x4 and no problems yet but only been about 2k miles since it was installed. Would definitely stay away from the doorman carrier bearing, thing crapped out after about 5k miles.

 

Good source for parts guys, thank you. I've bought the cheaper Advance Auto brand, first time the bushing went quickly. So next time I filled the void with outdoor silicone. So far the bushing has held up ok, but I think the silicone is drying it out. So the next one I am injecting the void with black urethane. This should hold up better and not dry out the rubber so quickly.

 

A few years ago I sourced an SKF center support bearing locally. The first one went bad almost immediately, the warranty replacement worked as it should up until I sold the truck mid 2015.

 

The whole driveline of my 09 came with spicer components from the factoty. U joints, yokes, carrier bearing, etc. I know cause I just took it apart today.

 

Its the design of the drive line that causes the vibration,it don't matter what joints you have.

 

I test drove a brand new Tacoma a week ago,SAME vib issue's on a brand new unaltered truck !

 

My truck a 2014 4x4 DCLB Stock ride Height developed vibes around 75k Miles. Found play in the rear u joint (grease mites ate the needles) previous owner apparently never greased them) and the carrier bearing rubber was sloppy. I replaced all the u joints and used a Beck Arnley Center Bearing. Dropped the shaft off at a friends shop who builds and balances shafts and he said it was all good. Took it home installed shaft, centered up CB with laser torqued everything to spec. Holy shit it was like driving a damn sex toy. Checked my work again did some reading which led me to order from autoplicity a spicer bearing #DAN5002007 pressed it on all is good so far, it's the same bearing Toyota sells for around $200 but 65.00 + shipping. I now have a 44.00 Paperweight on my work bench to serve as a reminder not to cheap out on parts.

 

2WD or 4WD?

 

By the way guys I found the Spicer part # for 4WD. Its 5002007, not 5002334. The

Spicer 5002334 bearing I got from rock auto has Toyota part # 37230-0K040 written on it. Did a little cross referencing of Toyota part #

$204 37230-0K030 Toyota Center Support Bearing - 37230-0K030

37230-0K030 and got 5002007. So they are different but people have probably gotten away with installing the 2WD bearing because the dimensions are probably close enough. Wonder if it will cause any issues. Gonna have to research the exact dimensions.
