Also looking at having this done - does anybody have recommendations for a good shop in the East Bay?

Looks like many of y'all are not installing heat shields, I assume no issues so far with proximity to plastic actuator? Does this have any bearing on factory warranty?

Drp. Just saw the thread dedicated to East Bay muffler/exhaust recommendations.

Regarding warranty though: Has anyone experienced any issues with warranty work post-reroute? Is this a bolt-on mod such that the OEM parts can be re-installed well enough to cover up any evidence of the reroute should it become an issue? Sorry for being a newb; this is a new world to me...

Reviving this thread instead of starting a new one:

I'm looking into having a reroute done on my '17 OR. I lease but plan on buying at the end of the term barring any issues with the truck I'm not willing to accept at that point. Still, I'd like to avoid as much permanent modding as possible in the event I return the truck in 3 years or need warranty work done.

If I save the OEM parts, to what extent can the exhaust be returned to stock? Would a good muffler shop be able to re-install the OEM parts so that the exhaust looks original, or is there too much cutting and welding involved? Thinking more about warranty work than lease-end issues, as the walkaround is usually done by an insurance adjuster who probably wouldn't know modded exhaust if he saw it.

It's a bit more expensive than just doing a one sided reroute, but the URD Y-pipe is completely bolt-on, reroutes the Y-pipe, increases pipe diameter to 2.25", and increases performance??? (Should know later this week ;)).

You could just save the stock y-pipe and bolt it back on if need be in the future. Just search for URD threads in the 3rd gen section, there are a couple threads on it already. I know two members already have it installed for sure on their 3rd gens, and I have mine sitting in the garage right now, just waiting for a couple more parts to come in tomorrow... Should be going on later this week.

are you sure it relocates for any better clearance? I heard differently from a customer who has posted in this thread actually

If clearance is what one is after(really what other reason is there to relocate the exhaust) the URD Y-pipe is useless. It just moves the cross over to the other side of the crossmember, it doesn't improve clearance and probably doesn't work with the majority of mid skid plates.

I will also add that the Doug Thorley Mid pipe that is in development does not increase clearance over stock either.

This depends on how much you are willing to spend and how worried you are they will notice a extra couple welds on the exhaust.

If you aren't worried about spending money you could get a complete custom bolt on exhaust. No worries about swapping back to stock if you decide not to keep the truck, but it will be pricey.

The second option is just keep the section that they cut out and have it welded back in place if you return the truck. Should be cheaper than the initial exhaust reroute cost as they won't have to bend any pipe. But you'll have a couple extra welds on the exhaust system than a stock one. Will anyone actually notice/look that closely?

I know @skyking3 said he raised it up another 1" or so after the pics he posted, so I don't know how much, if any, the pipe rose running parallel with the cross member in the below pic.

Here's a quote from Gadget in one of the other threads:

"The Y pipe has much improved routing for better ground clearance and flow..."

Tell you what, I'll go crawl under my truck here in a bit measure ground to stock y-pipe here in a bit, when I get it installed later this week, I'll do the same measurement to the new URD y-pipe and see if it changes.

I'll agree with you a custom re-route is going to give you a lot more clearance than either... I was just listing this as a option for the guy leasing his truck, because he wanted something that would be easy to remove when/if he turns in his truck. A bolt on solution would be a lot easier than a cut/weld.

You bought a 4 cylinder to avoid the low hanging exhaust?

Makes you wonder if there's a reason no one's getting closer to the transfer case actuator housing.

Not really, just thoughtless R&D departments not understanding the reasoning behind why consumers would want to replace their y-pipe. Plenty of people have rerouted close to the actuator without issue and I have yet to see anyone actually melt it on an 05+ truck. They have a bigger issue with staying sealed than melting or getting to hot. Hell the exhaust on my 08 Dumps at the T-case cross member because of space constraints on the 3-link and I still haven't had an actuator issue
