Tyger TG-BC3T1030 Tri-Fold Tonneau Cover

After a bit of research I decided on the

$224 Tyger TG-BC3T1030 , Black

Tyger TG-BC3T1030 tonneau cover, found it on Amazon $193.32 with free shipping for Prime members. It had a 4.7 star rating with 174 reviews and other reviews I found on the web were basically good as well--ordered it at 11:10 pm Thursday the 9th and got it on Monday the 13th.

To cut to the quick I could not be more pleased with it. Very well made, top quality materials, simple installation (25 minutes from opening the box) and a perfect fit on my '09 DCSB; here are quite a few photos and notes/comments:

The frame members are powder coated aluminum, all plastic fittings appear to be glass filled ABS. The cover material is a high quality 24 oz/yd² vinyl coated polyester fabric with a leather like finish on the outside, smooth on the inside.

Older reviews I found mentioned poor sealing at the leading and trailing (tailgate) junctures, and that Tyger had included some self-adhesive foam intended to provide a better seal. They must have upgraded the cover as the attached seals at both end of the cover I received fit and seal as well as could be expected.

Some others spoke to the leading edge rising a bit at higher speeds, with one reviewer showing photos of some clamps he had fabricated to better fasten the leading edge. Looking around the barn I found two of the HF clamps shown above, and using a square bastard file I notched their jaws to fit the t-slot in the cover's from rail, and the truck bed utility rail.

Using those as shown have clamped it quite solidly, I saw no tendency for it to rise even at 90-95 mph (I-95 near Daytona goes wild this time of year). My first thought was that they would be a temporary solution 'til I could make something more compact--but you all know how that works.

Highly recommended if you are looking for an affordable tonneau cover!

 

Thanks for the review, I think I'll order this one when I sell my Leer cap. Do you think a standard C-Clamp or 2 would attach alright to the front rail?

 

The issue I see with small C-clamps is that the swivel on the jack screw might "cam" itself off the rail. The advantage to the HF bar clamps is than the jaws are fixed; and often as little as $0.99 on sale (IIRC I got one of mine with a free-bee coupon and paid for one)...

 

Sounds like a hardware store trip is in my future. If you do end up coming up with a more compact solution please let me know.

How much of the bed remains covered when it is folded up? I guess what I'm looking for is an idea of how much of the storage area is limited to the height of the bed when folded.

Also, if you need access to the whole bed, how hard is it/how much time to take it off completely?

It folds in three very nearly equal segments, so when folded the rear 2/3rds of the bed is open, the forward 1/3rd is covered.

To remove it the two forward clamps need to be loosened and swung out of the way, and of course any added clamps like those I placed long the leading edge--5 minutes tops...

 

New here and new to tonneau covers. I just installed the tyger cover. When you installed your cover does the back third "pop up" slightly? Like it doesn't sit flat on the rails. Didn't know if this was normal to create more tension to prevent lifting while driving or if I got a defective cover (or installed it wrong). Thanks in advance!

 

Got a photo? The rear toggles should pull it down tightly--see the photos in my original post...

 

After using a little brain power I figured out it's just due to the vinyl being really tight which I imagine will stretch out over time. The toggles pull it down fine but when the toggles aren't fastened it pops up a bit. Thanks for your quick response though!

 

I had it before I got my cap. Fits perfect and very good quality. Rubber caps fell off the screws and I had to replace them. LED light was broken within a week too. Otherwise a good value.

 

The good news is the vinyl does not seem to stretch out--it remains nice and taut when clamped down...
