Federal Mogul bought the company making the Raybestos Chassis parts that's why they have pretty much vanished.

Most of the aftermarket as you said is from the same plant. The MOOG stuff with the "Problem Solving Technology" is supposed to be US made. Not sure if that means much these days but hey we can all hope.

    As it turns out,

The Duralast tie rod ends are different from the Moog, despite the same part numbers.

The boot design is good on the Duralast. I bought their inner and TRE's installed last week and so far they're working great.

Duralast are made by federal mogul but are equivalent to quick steer, not moog. They only use moog when there is no quick steer available.

Dustin boot looks nice but the casting looks kind of sketchy.

Time will tell how they hold up so maybe a long term review could be in the works. :D

Well, it looks like the Duralast ES80895 is now different.

I got lazy and ordered them online thru Autozone due to a time crunch. The boot design is different that what @Crom has pictured, also...NO GREASE ZERK! Which is a major disappointment.
    IMG_7568.jpg

The boot design seems good though.

Damn. What a drag! I posted the product link above, here it is again, picture on their website shows grease zerk fitting, and it's even listed in the description! Grease Zerks Included: Yes

I would return to store, and check local store stocked items. I wouldn't be surprised if Autozone had the part supplied from multiple manufactures, hence the variation in the product.

Yeah. Total drag. I might try and swing by the store and see what happens.

slightly off subject but relevant to TRE's: you guys know the size of wrench for the Inner Tie rod? I dont plan on using the tool if I dont have to. I have a pipe wrench which should work just fine holding the hex-ish round inner tie rod part but I was wondering what size of wrench is required to hold the steering rack piece so it does not wrap while applying the tq to loosen the inner TRE. Anyone know the size?

Also, are you guys using blue lock tight on the inner when replacing it?

Yes. It's 1-7/16" across the flats.

Here is the adapter I used Gansterzone OEM Sangnaw tie rod adapter 27042

Yes on the blue lock tite

Just to follow up on this... I went back to my local Autozone, the stock they had on hand were the same as the ones I received. The new design has NO zerk apparently.

Has anyone looked into or tried this brand of outer tie rod end? Looking at doing this soon and with the amount of problems MOOG seems to be having I'm looking into other serviceable options.

    Welcome!

Wow. I see a pattern, you guys see it too?

    Looks at tha part numbers:

How much you wanna bet, it all comes from the same factory?

    :D

If the Ingalls has that boot with the bellows, I bet it's fine. Similar to my Duralast boot.

Yeah I saw that too with the part #'s but looks like the boot design is better than what else is out there. Was attempting to get the same tie rod ends that @Crom has but unfortunately Duralast had to go cheap and change their design. I just ordered these through Amazon so will report back on how they are built and hold up after install.

After reading this thread, I did some searching for Outer TRE's that have the older style design. I ended up installing these from Mevotech with Moog inners. I ordered from from JCWhitney with one of their 15% coupons.
They have Zerks on the bottom and seems to have the older style of boot everyone preferred before the switch. Time will tell how they hold up.

On a side note, has anyone that used the Moog Inner TRE's added grease to them before installing the the boot over them?

i had to change out my inners, and outers recently. went with AC Delco instead of OEM or MOOG. OEM is the best but i heard MOOG is hit or miss.
