Not at all. 2" would probably work for the average situation, but I wouldn't trust it on a vehicle that is really stuck. 3" wide is really the best size for all around use.

I'd mention that you have to be careful here. Even a 2" snatch strap will store enough energy that it can easily exceed the rating on a recovery point, so if you're stuck enough to potentially break a 2" strap then you could easily have flying hooks using a 3". My point is only that we need to know ratings.

For example a bow shackle is rated with a working load limit and margin of safety to yield. Most good ones are rated for 4 to 6 times WLL to breaking. So even a 5/8" 3.25 ton shackle will /probably/ be safe with even a 3" strap. They have a working limit of 6,500 lbs and a minimum breaking proof of maybe as high as 39,000 lbf. But you're still exceeding the WLL before the breaking point of the strap is reached. In the region above WLL but below yield you do have to start thinking about bending or deforming.

A factory tow hook OTOH is something I don't know but I doubt I'd trust it beyond a 2" breaking point of 8,000 kg/17,500 lbs. Going to a 3" would mean you could possibly store something like 11,000 kg/24,000 lbf. I'd certainly be weary of that on a stock hook and would prefer at least a 3/4" shackle (4.75 ton) or maybe a pintle hook. The TRD hook is cast so it's not going to bend much when stressed, they just fracture.

In full disclosure I have both a 2" and 3" strap and I agree with you but throwing this out there so people are aware of it. You'd really prefer a strap to break before a shackle, hook, frame, bumper or bolt.
