New member from Michigan here. I’ve had the truck about 1.5 years now, put about 20K on the clock and no real complaints… except that it needs a V8 :p. She is a 2002 double cab TRD 4x4, 3.4+ATX with about 200K. I’ve also got a 1991 MR2 turbo and a 1990 Nissan Hardbody regular cab 4x4.

I recently bought some Bilstein 4600 front shocks to match the rears I put in last winter. I ended up buying new upper mounts and springs to go in at the same time, however when I was mocking the assembly up I realized that I was missing some bushings and washers. I ended up buying a set from Amazon.

While trying to figure out what I needed I came across some images which seemed to be from a FSM for a 1st gen taco, however the mounts depicted in the FSM pages were totally opposite to the ones supplied by all the major parts stores… Obviously removing the old shocks and taking them apart would be the most straight forward route to take, however the truck is my daily and its cold out and I’d rather just do it the one time when I replace them for good.

The only thing a phone call to a yota dealer did was remind me why I avoid dealers whenever possible, so here I am hoping someone on here will be able to answer my questions.

    - The diagram from the FSM which is labeled “4x4 and Pre runner” shows a hat like top mount.

    - The diagram from the FSM which is labeled “2wd” has a flat top mount.

    - All the parts stores sell you the flat one when you tell them you have a 4x4 truck.

Who is right and who is wrong??

Those look like 2005-present Tacoma diagrams. This one is correct for the 1995.5-2004 Tacoma.

Ahh, Dave you're right! I didn't notice the lower portion of the shock where it thins down... Blind.
Thanks for the proper diagram :)
