image.jpg I know there was a recall on this issue back about 2013/14 ? Anyhow, doesn't help me now, but can someone tell me what Toyota did for the fix? The recall specifically states it is not concerned about the outer headlight lense, so how did they fix the inside without disturbing the outside. Does it come apart somehow? My LH side lens is burned, cracked in half, and laying on the outer lens now. It just looks dumb. What have you guys done to fix these?

The fix was full replacement of the headlight assembly.

Thanks, I kind of expected that was the only answer. Wish I'd been a participant in that! Oh well.

whats stoppin you from taking it in and seein if they will replace it? the did mine. They did on my 2011, no questions asked. I didnt think there was an "end date" on stuff like that. If the truck is a gen 2, you should be covered....right?

It was a warranty enhancement campaign. It had an end date. You had to take it to the dealership for the repair by November 30, 2015, to qualify for replacements.

Looks like you missed the boat. Took everything to convince myself to let the stealership work on my truck. Mind you this was the ONLY time my truck has ever been to the stealership. After they get finished, lo' and behold when I get it back I find scratches near the base of the headlight assembly. Further proving why I continue doing my own maintenance.

They didn't do mine during the time period because my tacoma "wasn't suppose to have DTRLs" I told them I bought the truck like that from you guys and not only are the lenses burned and broke in half but the wiring harness is melted. They didn't care to replace. They sent the report to corporate and they said no also. I said I'm glad you guys don't care about my melting harness that could be a fire hazard.

Just checked back here again, Interesting responses all. Yes, the truck is past the Extended Warranty offer.
Since 1st post, (should have looked before bothering folks here I guess), I have found tons of replacement assy's at various prices. I tend to believe you get what you pay for.........., but?
Are there any that have shown better life than others? Lasted longer with no burn issues?
The Dorman units have my vote so far.

I would buy the $85 ones from Amazon, and if needed but another set in 2-3 years. As to Dorman I have over the years used plenty of their parts, but mostly because I needed/wanted it now and that's what the FLAPS had in stock--I have never been overly (or generally) impressed with their quality. It is usually just the same Asian stuff as offered on eBay, Amazon, etc. in Dorman packaging...

You might want to look into killing the DTRL, don't want to mess up your new set of lamps.

I just bought OEM assy. they sell the updated ones so that (hopefully) the problem is corrected. the new assemblies also came with the actual lights which I wasn't expecting. great quality! went through Toyota parts of York and got them fairly cheap. I had the same problem and they refused to cover them also.

That's interesting to me. Mine didn't come from the factory with them either. I added them. My dealership replaced mine, no questions asked.

I was also about 15k miles out of their "extended warranty". Why they have a miles restriction on a possible fire hazard problem, who knows.
