As I was driving into work today, my tacoma started spinning the rear tires on nearly all accelerations (as opposed to just the hard accelerations). The ASL light came on once as I was driving over the bridge, but it didn't again, even while the tires were spinning and causing the truck to drift.

I'm set to take it into Toyota tomorrow, but I'm trying to get an idea of what it could be beforehand.

    Welcome to TW!

Tires spinning on any acceleration sounds like you drove through some oil, or were on an oily street. The issue is friction in-between your tires and the road, there should be no mechanical issues with the truck, short of having some crazy power mods to burn the tires.

Was the road wet? Icy? Snowy? Sandy? How do your tires look? If your tires are worn out and you hit a slick patch of road this will happen.

I hate to ask the obvious but since u mentioned it being worse on a bridge here goes:
Was there snow or ice on the road?

    1) I'm hoping it is just some oil on the tires, I really am.

    2) The roads are pretty much always wet here, and it's nothing different than it has been for the last several months. As for sand, nothing out of the ordinary.

and 3) No, there's no snow or ice on the roads.

I used to have this issue with a '68 Roadrunner. That thing would drift at the drop of a hat.

As asked above, how are your tires? Or how OLD are your tires? Or what type of tires do you have?

this doesn't make any sense unless you are on a really really slick surface... Like ice.. Even a little freezing fog. a little bit of frost.. that's all it takes. Because it It takes a heck of a lot of power and throttle input to just spin tires all over on dry pavement. If your tires are spinning, it means you have no traction.. which has NOTHING to do with the truck itself. Its all tires and road surface.
