P0333.

2007 Tacoma, v6 giving me P0333 code: knock sensor 2 circuit, high input bank 2.

From reading other threads in here with very limited info as to where in the bowels of the engine is this so called sensor....

I am in need of info detailing where exactly it is as it is dark and raining at my location. Is there a site where I can instructions on how to proceed? I do not mind paying for it as the labor on this is > $2k.

Had to stop tonight because apparently, Toyota is getting smart ass about owners working on their trucks... See that Torx with the security bit in the middle, well, I do not have such thing in my tool chests. It is a T40 and first thing tomorrow, I will have to stop by Sears or whoever else has it.

Right after dinner, I decided to go to Harbor Freight and get one of their scope cameras. I am not a wild fanatic on HF tools but rather than pay 400 plus for a pro label (which is very close in design and model..), I went for their bigger screen model. I bought it with the hope to satisfy and confirm my suspicion on the bad wiring.

Not sure what in hell was hungry last night. There has been a ton of rain around the area and I am not sure what finally decide to come over and have my truck for a happy meal. I've been here for close to 4 years, live in the city and never had an issue until now. I was hoping it was an O2 sensor than this %*&^(^&(*^ so called knock sensor.


Until then....
List for tomorrow will be to find those Torx, find the torque specs for those bolts, get some gaskets and coolant from the stealership.

I have to figure if I have to dump the coolant....any ideas??? Anyone?

UPDATE 06MAR20171816 : YES, you will have to dump the coolant. Buy 3 gallons of the long/max life coolant from dealer. You can always return what you do not use.

I guess I am 50% done with this and also fighting a big headache. Keep forgetting to drink water as I am too focused on the teardown.

While I am in here this far into the bowels if the truck, I am going to do the fan belt. The Truck is at 84k and I believe the belt is due.

It almost feels like there's been a big up-tick in critters getting into vehicles and wreaking havoc!

 

That security torx bolt, don't worry about it. That only splits the lower plenum halves. See the bolt above it? 12mm. Just untighten those to remove the lower plenum from the heads. Then you'll have greater access.

 

I had the same exact thing except it was a rat dining on my wires. Insurance covered me under my comprehensive policy.

Fan belt just finished. I am taking my time and double or triple checking my steps. Those clips sure where a a madafraker to get on on the sensors. Had to loosen those sensors and finagle make and female until they click

Rodent damage on the knock sensor harness is soooo common, we replace these harnesses every week during the winter! some people have told us that peppermint oil keeps those damn rats away.

 

I suspect mine was probably a squirrel. I found nut shells and excrement on left side of wheel well inside engine bay. Not sure what squirrel crap looks like but that's my guess.


Do you know the bolt on sequence/torque on the plenum that goes directly to the heads???? I really do not want to damage that aluminum part or cause any damage to the heads. Better to ask now and be safer than sorry.

note: Always loosen outside to in, Always tighten inside to out
Tighten like you would lug nuts on a wheel, criss cross so to speak.

 

Shit, I just had this fixed on my truck last month. I knew it was going to be expensive if it was rodent damage going in, but the light came on while the truck was in freezing-ass, snow covered Tahoe, where the rodents freeze to death, so I had a glimmer of hope. Or I would have to go through my insurance to get it covered, if it was, indeed, rodent damage.

Anyway, they pull the intake and one of the wires looked like it was cut with a razor blade. No rat droppings or other signs anywhere, so they could not shove it i my face and go "look! rats!", so they had to do it all for free and have it covered by warranty, so I got lucky there.


Good idea on the wire "fence" but they will be able to get through it with no effort, plus there are other wires to chew. Perhaps one of those under-the-hood rodent repellents would do a better job and protect the entire engine bay
