The truck already had it installed. Honestly I would prefer the stock air box if I had one.

I have read mixed thoughts on them so who knows. I ordered a charger kit and will just run it I guess. I don't have a stock setup for it anyway. Thoughts ??

Some people say neg things, it's your choice , This setup works great for me and I notice a difference for sure, but noticed more of a difference after
I did the elbow mod, but also I'm running a supercharger that's sucks more air. I have more than 500,000 miles on the KN system and I'm plenty happy with it, they did replace the airfiter for free two times because the rubber got soft, if your going into water over the hood, maybe not a good choice, I would definitely do the elbow mod

Do your own research on actual data and tests, (jim-bob's hearsay evidence of 'I RUN ONE OF THEM K&N THINGIES FOR YEARS AND NEVER HAD A PROBLEM' doesn't count) and make an educated decision. There are a few documented 3rd party tests you can find online that aren't part of a marketing gimmick.

I'm not referencing anyone or anything in particular, just get all the actual data you can on it. I won't run one, but that's just my opinion based on seeing 3rd party testing data.

You just need to be careful with how much oil is on the filter, if it gets over-oiled you will foul up the MAF, throttle body, plugs, etc.
Personally I like dry filters, less maintenance to them, but if you're looking for every pony you can get something high-flow like the KN might be a good choice.

For me it's not so much the oil, but those filters let much more particulate matter through.

I did the elbow mod and didn't like the K+N dropin with it. It runs better with the stock filter.

Same here. Also made my own air tube up.

I have a K&N on my 2.7l. The 4 banger isn't exactly very loud and I hated how quiet it was. Felt like I was driving a go-cart. I bought the intake because I wanted the engine to be louder. It advertised a 5 HP increase (proven and tested on a Dyno for a 2.4l on the included data sheet) but I didn't think it would do much on the 2.7l.

I could have achieved the same results with the deck-plate mod, but I live in California where everything is either illegal or causes cancer. The K&N intakes are CARB certified so I don't have to be worried by failing the visual portion of the required 2 year SMOG check since there would be a big 'ol hole in the side of the air box. My main reasons buying it were: sound, and the fact that it's CA CARB certified.

I wouldn't say I noticed an increase in how the truck accelerates or moves, but damn do I love the sound it makes when I turn on the ECT and gun it down the highway on ramp.

I put in bold the key part. Wouldn't trust their own 'testing'. That's why independent labs started testing K&N's claims. There are also independent lab/shop testing results on the HP claims too. All the info you could ever want is out there, this is why I love the information age we're in.

Edit: I'm sure I'm annoying by now with my take on aftermarket air filters. I'll leave it alone.

What are you after with your truck?

I used to do k&n for everything but at some point I got old (30s) and the extra noise is no longer a plus, even if it's worth a few HP.

I think installed and maintained properly you'll be fine.

Stock intakes are not super common but they do come up on eBay.

I didn't really trust it either. I didn't really care about the HP very much. I really just cared about the noise, aesthetic, and CARB certification.
If I find the Dyno data sheet it came with I'll post it here.

Again OP, you can probably achieve the same results by doing the deck plate mod or that elbow mod I keep hearing about.

Dammit, I can't stay away. Someone also specifically dynoed the deck plate mod, and guess what?..... I'm sure you're already guessing it....any improvement to HP was negligible. You can also find those results online.

The Placebo Effect is a helluva drug man.
I laugh every time I see Silverados with spoilers on the tailgate.

If you think your spoiler is useless imagine a spoiler on the tailgate of a pickup.

Lol, I hear ya hermano. Man I really hate being the negative Nelly about this stuff. I just think man, I wish someone had told me about the k&n and other 'mods' before I had done them. I would've saved a few Benjamin's for sure. If people still want to go through these mods for their own other reasons, that's great. Don't really care, I just wanna help them avoid the mistakes I made. I had 3 K&N filters in 2 vehicles at the same time... I wasn't happy when I ran into the testing data online. I'm all for people doing stuff for looks or whatever, as long as everyone knows what to expect and not to expect. You know, there's this little thing called reality that I've had to come to see the hard way at times... Lol.

    I hear ya.

I mean the K&N's looks great and sounds great. Really the only advantages I can think of. The stock intake is technically already a CAI since it has a snorkel in the fender. The K&N is basically a glorified hot air intake.

I agree, it really does look cool. I'm just old enough now where other things have a higher priority over looks. Now, if you can get the looks with badass function, like a lot of the armor being sold for our tacos... Now we're talking.
I'm done hijacking this thread. Apologies, OP
