Head need to come off for knock sensor P0333?

I have a 2014 with only 17K miles and I just came back from the Toyota dealership for the commonly known 'rodent chewing on the knock sensor harness' issue. I've already read up on all the different threads; however, does the head really need to be removed to replace the harness? They quoted me $2700 and will end up going through insurance. At 17K miles, I really don't trust the Toyota dealership to go that far due to an incident during the diagnostic.

IAW the service manual, yes.

You might could get at it if you are patient.

 

Op, I am currently working on my 2007 model for the same issue.
The pics/drawings posted in those links are not accurate when it comes to those two pipes between the heads. They seem to show the pipes come out. Maybe is just for illustrative purposes. Yes, they will be able to be moved around but it will try your patience and efforts. Take your time, you can do it. That's if you go for it. Where abouts are you?
