And I assume that filter is in the tranny pan... yes..? You have to drop the pan..?
I thought all we had was a metal screen as a "filter".. is that right..?
How hard is to get to this filter and change it..?

Yeah that was on my old truck I built. I haven't been into this one yet, but I believve you're correct that it has a "strainer" and not a filter unfortunately. Looks like manufacturers are realizing that they're building cars that last too long, and want to tune that down a bit! Lol. Or cater to owners who don't want to keep up with maintenance, that never service anything.

You're not taking into account a potential upper-decker from a unscrupulous 2nd gen owner...

Will the threads on low transmission fluid from the original build I had mine change at dealership at 10k service. I did pay out of pocket they said 4-5qts. was replaced came to 190.00 . Will have performed again at 30k. At 15k will service front and transfer myself for easy piece of mind. And oil every 5K.

I,m talking about doing a full flush. I did this in my 2010 trd off road. 2 times without an issue. Replaced it with amsoil atf. I want to do the same with my new Tacoma now. I was just curious if it was the same process. I performed the tranny level check procedure already it was 1 quart low. But I want to replace it with amsoil. I know I don't need to replace it yet, only got 9,000 miles on it.

I also did this with my 2nd gen. I did a write-up listing all materials and quantities here https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/ipt-valve-body-finally-installed.318077/ I'm not sure if the 3rd gen is identical. It's a different tranny so I doubt it... but there probably are similarities.

BTW.. I had my 3rd gen fluid checked and it was down about 3/4 quart. I wrote that into the deal before I'd accept the truck.

If you have not checked the front and rear diff yet... do it. Do not wait till 15,000.... My rear was low as was the front diff.... The Transfer case was OK... Check it man...!! Easy peasy to do... remove plug and stick in finger...!
