Welcome to TW. Some people do it successfully. I'd suggest doing a google search on this site( there are tons of builds). But beware most people stay under 3" on 4x4 due to drive train problems. Hope you find your answer!

Stay under 3" and spend the saved money on quality parts and tires. 6" lifts are non-reversible on tacoma and weaken the vehicle along with more headaches.

^That. When I bought my Tacoma I thought I was going to do a 6" lift... but with cutting out the cross member and all that mess, I've decided against it. Research on here and you'll learn what you'd be getting into. Can it be done? Of course, but it may cost some serious $$ and you may end up with inferior components. Some good tires, wheels, and a sold 3" lift look good on these trucks. I just picked up my Icon Stage 4 lift and can't wait to put it on!
