I have some vacation time and thinking about running to Fresno to visit with a friend. I would like some suggestions about some good trails from Texas to California to test my 3rd gen with 2" lift and 33" tires. I used to drive OTR so I'm familiar with hwy routes but not so familiar with off road trails. Thanks in advance!

Depends how you are going there. Are you trying to optimize your route or would you be willing to go along the border to San Diego and then up to fresno.

If you go along south first you can hit the dunes in Glamis, then go up slightly to anza borrego. Those two places alone will provide you enough variety to test your truck out all the way from intro trails to might not make it out alone trails.

Then you can go over to San Diego spend a night or two there, hit up some awesome breweries, and head up north to fresno.

Depending on the time of year and how much extra time you've got, driving up the Eastern Sierras, seeing Mono and cutting over through Yosemite is pretty amazing for non-Ca folks. You'd be driving by Whitney etc as well. You would be "wasting" a day or two going out of your way, but like I said; if you've never seen these angry granite peaks here it's been impressive to everyone I've ever taken in their general vicinity let alone hiking them.

I'm really familiar with mountains from driving over the road but that's in a big truck. It must be awesome to actually spend time messing around there. Thanks I'm definitely going to check that out. I have 10 days so I think I'm going to do that and than head south and play in the dunes
