With "43.000 mikes" I would think the step would bend before it would rust.

I had that happen to my 2010 sport, I had a warranty from the dealer and had them replaced free. The debris from the road sand , dirt, etc kicks the paint off. I now have the factory plastic running boards.

Factory steps or dealer add on?

Do they have damaged finish from stepping on them, off road use or road debris?

Are the rusting on the surface or from the inside?

Do you live in snow/salt country? Somewhere that is very wet (like Florida)? Is the truck parked where it is reguarly wet by things like irrigation systems?

So basically you see that many things cause rust. We don't know if it's normal wear and tear, or some unusual defect. But I can tell you this. The only place that would even consider remedy is where they came from, not a forum.

And I think your chances are slim to none.

Remove the steps, clean them well, treat them with a rust encapsulator, then finish with a bed liner product like www.monstaliner.com or such.

Read your paperwork. Pretty sure that's mechanical/electrical, not 'everything'.

    Good luck!

    I know, I know!
It's great the dealer is taking care of this.

For some of us……it's a fight. So, Fluid film everything!
