king vs. icon vs. fox racing coilovers

Thanks for the tip. But I have my truck scheduled with Mikes Custom Toys in Grants Pass Oregon tomorrow morning. By the end of tomorrow I will have a new suspension system.
It seems the Icon and Fox cost about the same without remote resis. And King is quite a bit more.
I'm ready to drop around $2,000. A King package is closer to $3k.
That is counting leaf springs as mine have sagged. I think you call it the bro lean?
Need some Deavers or Dakar?

 

What all are you looking to get suspension wise? I assume coils, leaf pack, rear shocks, and maybe UCAs?

No UCA's. Not looking for a lot of lift except the back. New leaf springs should fix that.
Need front coilovers, rear shocks and leaf springs for sure.
I think what I have now is factory stock. I read somewhere that Tokigo shocks were standard on the TRD Off Road package. And that is what's on it now.

 

May want to research before the pull the trigger on a system. Icon is digressive and fox is progressive valving. They are completely different in how they ride. I like the progressive valving which is what SAW, King, and Fox run where it starts soft and gets stiffer the harder the force is on the shock. Digressive is the opposite where it starts out stiffer and gets softer at higher speeds. Some say that Icon replicate a similar feel to stock suspension. Regardless, I would see if you can ride in a vehicle with Icon before pulling the trigger if Icon is what you are thinking. Most of my friends who have Icon would of gotten something else if they knew before hand.

Your thoughts are exactly what I came up with after reading 58 pages of this thread. Progressive sounds like the ticket. Fox is at the top of my list right now.
But that could change like the weather.

 

For $1,640 I can get Fox 2.0 all the way around and Deaver springs, which has all the U-Bolts, etc. Mike charges $400 to install FOX front and rear. And maybe another $200 for the springs?
Anyway, at a little over 2K I should have a sweet setup. I'm pumped.

 

I got deavers...might be worth asking what the ride height will be with them and if they might sag over time? They are nice springs though.

Bro lean is gone. I now have a natural rake thanks to Mike at Mike's Custom Toys. Fox and Deavers!!!
Mike said the Deavers will settle about a half inch in 500 Miles. And the Fox Coil-overs will settle about a quarter of an inch.
Ended up putting the Fox 2.5 Factory series coil overs on. I told Mike I would be adding a winch soon. He said the 2.5 would be better suited for the added weight.
After an alignment I hit the road to Eugene, OR. last night. All I can say is I am pleased with the results. My Taco is actually fun to drive now.

 

Awesome man, def sounds like you made the right decision! I like the look of my truck, but it's how good the suspension feels that makes me want to always drive it.

hey, my friend has me second guessing my suspension install. saying I need to drop the front differential. wtf? I didn't when I threw on my Kings and UCA. she's about to buy her own setup, but wants to know whether she should buy a kit that comes "
one is $2800 for king shocks front and rear and total chaos UCA, or

with my setup, it came to $4k... KING 2.5" Rem. Res. Ext. Travel Coilover w/Comp Adj (front and rear).

I didn't need front drop kit and or extend my brake lines. lol did I do something wrong?

 

You don't need diff drop or extended lines. If you feel like brake lines are necessary go for it. But drop kit no.

 

Nothing wrong with your set up...I used to run kings before I went LT. It is preferred to do a diff drop the higher that your lift is from stock to keep the angles of your CV shafts as in line as possible, but since I was at 2 inches above ride height I never did this. I would get extended brake lines in order to ensure you don't have any issues with your brake lines if you end up going full droop. For on road driving, you can probably get away with your stock brake lines until you are ready to install them.

Does anyone have any input on what coil weight I should use on my 06 access cab with an extra 110lb of front weight? I also have steel skids and sliders too.

 

Standard coilovers are set at 650# weight for a stock bumper and stuff. If you have a full plate bumper and plan to add a winch on it...then I would get 700# springs. If you don't plan to put a winch on it, but will get a full plate bumper, then stick with 650#. The armor from the sliders and stuff shouldn't affect you enough on the front to go up to 700# weight unless you got a big bumper and winch.

I just took the diff drop off my truck. Don't bother. All it gets you is more opportunities to break the diff housing on a rock.

Extend all the lines . There's a guy in the for-sale section selling custom length break lines.
