Got my kit from Voodoo (very fast shipping!) and my Smart Start add-on from Amazon. Sitting here waiting for stupid posi-taps to arrive on the 13th :( The wait is killing me! :annoyed:

I feel like waiting is the best thing and not risking a "sub-par" install.

So I got my DBALL and DSM300 installed. I installed DBALL, reconnected battery terminal, verified functionality. Then disconnected battery again, installed DSM300 in the location you recommended above gauge cluster. Everything works well except: lock feature from the viper app does not lock truck. Lights blink once signaling what I assume is a successful command received, but the doors do not lock. Unlock feature works fine. Could it be my posi-tap did not make good connection on the OSB? Before I took things apart again I wanted to make sure you didn't have any other ideas. Thanks!

The posi-taps aren't always very positive.

Yes, a problem with the Lock wire connection from the DBALL2 would be my primary suspect. Your testing shows that the data connection between the DSM300 and DBALL2 seems to be okay, which then suggests looking at the DBALL2 connections to the truck.

Kind of ironic about the posi taps  I'll go trouble shoot and see what I can figure out. Thanks for the input

Yeah, well, nature of the beast. :D I think positaps are the best of the vampire taps on the market, but they're still taps.

You did use a 24-26 gauge positap, yes? Especially with tiny wires it's important to use the properly sized taps.

I'm embarrassed to admit this in "public" but I posi-tapped the wrong blue. I jumped for the obvious blue and not the light blue as specified and according to the PIN out. Rechecked my work and realized what I had done. I guess this is the benefit of Positap bc I just used e-tape to cover the small holes and spliced the correct wire. Viper command works fine now. On the original install I took double the time rechecking everything too. Surprised this slipped by me. I was convinced that the correct wire (which I did not originally splice) was green. When it in fact is light blue.

May this be a warning to all.....the PIN out is your friend if you are color blind like me.

@RNtaco good to know you got it working, and you bring up an excellent point. Wire colors are a great guide, but can be subjective even if you aren't color blind. Is it beige or is it tan? I always verify the wire goes to the correct pin.

Just ordered mine, can't wait. Do I need to get my own posi-taps, or do they come with?

Ok I see that now. I'm kinda working backwards through the thread. Read the first couple pages a while back then read the last page and ordered today.... Thanks for putting this stuff together!

To add on -- it's really easy to buy a spool of 24ga wire to practice on until you're confident. Radio Shack or other places carry it.

Soldering, with a decent low-power butane iron, is pretty easy as well. Key thing there is low power.

Is there a way to extend the range or use an aftermarket remote?

So I have it all installed and I can't get the light to go from red to green in the programming phase... Any ideas where to look?

If anyone is wondering, I actually selected the wrong white wire on the back of the obd plug. There's a white across, and beside my blue. I picked the wrong one first.... KB was awesome to help me out!!

Glad you got it sorted, @Gravybird -- good reminder to folks to check both color and pin for every wire they're touching.

@kxed Yes, you can add on a longer range RF remote, though my only experience is with adding the SmartStart cellular setup (see my signature). If you want to carry a second remote you'd use the XL202 RFTD interface mentioned elsewhere in the thread; you'll want to make sure with @KB Voodoo that your DBALL2 is coded to use one (or just code it that way yourself if you rolled your own setup)
