I would like to thank this SITE and everyone on it for the great insight that it has given me on the wonders of owning a "Taco". I just bought my first Taco a few weeks ago, 2000 4x4 SR5 EXT Cab 5 speed 197K+ miles, and have already run into a few things that this sight has helped me with. The only thing that bothers me is that first gear will Grind/ Pop out of gear the majority of time if I don't hold it in gear when I start to drive. I have replaced the Seat and Seal with the Marlin Crawler parts, both white.

It does not do it as much now but my wife does not want to drive it and my 15 Yr. old soon to be 16 wants to drive the truck as his own. I don't want do anything more to damage the Transmission. The only thing that I can see is that it is the Syncro for First gear that is gone or going. Every other gear is crisp. I'm not sure when the transmission fluid was changed or if that could be the problem.

ANY help would be great that anyone could provide me. Again thanks for the great site it is very informative and helpful.

Welcome to the club! As far as the trans goes, that sounds like a bad synchro to me. I've rebuilt a few 4 and 5 speeds and that usually isn't a huge deal to tear into as long as you take your time and are organized with the removal and re installation.
