    Hey guys...and gals -

    Here's my situation:

    I currently own a 2013 Tacoma, SR5, Double Cab, 4x4, 75k miles (I owe around $9,500)

I am considering adding an ICON suspension kit http://iconvehicledynamics.com/shop...5-suspension-system-stage4-w-tubular-uca.html

and a rear elocker (which i am having trouble finding, so if you can hit me with some links I'd appreciate it)

2nd option is to buy another truck...TRD OR equipped with proper suspension and an elocker -

I am planning on doing some dessert stuff this summer and want to be ready! If you have experience adding an electronic rear locker to an SR5 I would value your input.

I have heard air lockers have a higher failure rate plus I'd have to get the compressor...kind of stuck.

    TIA

I'm not aware of an E-locker for the 8.4 (not saying there isn't one), but selling your truck to get a rear locker seems a little extreme since you can get an ARB, though yes it does require a compressor.

There is nothing to write home about on the OR suspension, most people end up pulling it out anyway and going with something better, even it it is just 5100s. The Icon system would be drastically better.

What I put in the back of my Tacoma SR5 and pickup was a TruTrac. A torsion based aggressive LSD (not like a clutch-based unit that is common). This is on all the time and seamlessly transfers power to the tire with traction. They are great for about everything except rock crawling where you may have one wheel in the air.

The OR does come with a bunch of other upgrades though over the SR5, depending on the year. Aside from the locker, most notable is ATRAC off road traction control and a more powerful electronically boosted braking system. You can easily build your truck to be as capable or more so for less than changing vehicles, but if you really want an OR don't put money into the truck you are contemplating getting rid of.

    I did find this...https://www.harrop.com.au/shop/elocker-toyota-84-live-axle?search=toyota locker

So the ARB Air locker is essentially the same price - not including a compressor (maybe $300)

I am more interested in the failure rate of the ARB's ... some folks are saying the failure is high, freezing lines etc - (It does get sub zero at times where I am at) - that's the next issue to research.

One question how can I confirm whether I have an 8" or 8.4"? I am finding conflicting information...

I just saw that too in another thread. I'd like the simplicity of an electric locker over pneumatic. I've used OEM pneumatic lockers plenty of time in the snow and freezing temps though, and never had a failure.

If you have an Off Road with factory locker you have an 8", if you don't have an OR you have an 8.4.

I'd take an SR5 on icons any day over a stock OR with a locker. I think you'd be making the right decision modding your truck in my opinion.

You should keep the truck for sure get Kings instead :stirthepot: ARB rear locker and then you can have an on board air system for filling up tires and so on.
