Well all of a sudden when I push my cruise control button in the light won't come on and I have no cruise control. I checked all the blade fuses under the hood and in the truck (yes every single one) and my brake lights with no issues. The horn works too. Truck is not in 4wd, locker is not on, nothing is wrong that I can tell other than the cruise control doesn't work.

2010 Tacoma Auto 4x4 with no recent work done to it in the last 6 months and 60,000 miles on the odometer.

The only thing I can't remember is when you push the cruise button does it stay slightly down then when you turn cruise off does the button come slightly out? Mine doesn't stay in. Amazing what you can't remember, but you have used it every day for 2 years.... The button popped out over a year ago, but I put everything back together and it has worked with no problems ever since without popping back out.

Any ideas? This is driving me crazy!!!

This happened to me on an older vehicle. It turned out to be that a clip inside the switch had broken and wouldn't keep the button pressed in the on position.

Press the cruise control button down and keep it pressed. If it turns on and stays on as you are holding it then that broken clip is most likely your culprit.

    Keep us posted!

I forgot to put that down too as I thought of that too. The light doesn't come on nor does the cruise control work. Thanks for reminding me about that, Victor.

    Any other ideas?

The on/off button does not "latch" in the ON position, the botton normally returns to the same position whether the cruise is on or off. If the cruise is "ON" when the key is turned off, it will be "OFF" when the key is turned back on. That doesn't necessarily mean your cruise switch isn't at fault here though. The cruise stalk operates on two wires - each momentary position has a different resistance value that the ECU reads. If you can track down the resistance values from the serivce manual, the switch is easy to test with an ohmmeter.

There is also a very high probability that the clockspring, AKA spiral cable is at fault, have you already had it checked or replaced under the recall? If not, I'd have the recall completed first before going further with your diagnostics.

If it was the clockspring wouldn't the horn not work and the airbag light be on? Also, I checked the Toyota recall site and my truck doesn't come up on that. My Tacoma is a 2010 too and the recall says through 2009.

I just checked the recall info, and yup, 2010s seem to be excluded.

The clockspring has five conductors, two of which are for the airbag, two are for the cruise, and one is for the horn. If either if the two cruise conductors failed, it would render cruise innoperable, without effecting the airbag or the horn.

I'd still test the switch first.

This guy's on the right track. My first thought was the switch, since you had problems with it in the past, followed by the clockspring. 60K is a short life for a clockspring, but we know Toyota has had issues with them.

it's a 7.5 amp fuse so I replaced it, now all of a sudden my cruise control light won't come on and my cruise control doesn't work. My service engine light came on and won't go off and my traction control light came on and won't go off and then when I first drove it man it ran terrible no power what so ever now it runs fine but I'm still having all these crazy issues...............what gives all I did was replace a darn fuse??? Any help or suggestions would sure be nice.
    thanks for your help

Sounds like the truck is going into a limp mode or safe mode. My wife's Subaru did something similar to that when I change her air filter and unplugged the MAF. I just cleared the code with a reader and it was fine.

Some don't have the option to erase codes...on mine you just hold down the erase button. You can also try to disconnect your ground wire for a couple of minutes.

Ever discover a solution for this? My cruise control is have the same symptoms. All fuses are fine, horn works, buttons on steering wheel works, no lights on. Was it the cruise control stalk that just needed to be replaced?

When I push the button to turn on cruise control nothing happens (no green light on the dash) and I tried setting a speed after the button push but it doesn't do anything so it's not a dead dash LED. Also since the horn functions and the steering wheel buttons all work I don't think that it would be the clock spring.

    Edit: Also no stored codes

Why don't you think it is a spiral cable?

The spiral cable is just a bunch of parallel wires each going to different functions in the steering wheel. If the only wire broken is for the Cruise Control then that is all that will be effected.
