Hey guys I bought a set of OEM spark plug wires for 44 bucks on eBay. I was thinking I would get the other 3 boots from the parts store but did not realize I would be mismatching the brands. So anyway just now looking up the OEM boots on eBay and I see 48 bucks for 3 and 50 something bucks for 3. Damn that's almost a hundred bucks for his set of on wires. Duralast I could have gotten a whole set for about 50 bucks that came with everything for the well all of the wires and boots. Is there that much of a difference between going with the Duralast wires versus the OEM ones?

I'm not sure what you are referring to. I think on the V6 there are only 3 wires. There's a COP over each plug on the passenger's side (I think that's right), with a wire over to a mated cylinder on the driver's side.

if you look up Toyota spark plug wires for the specific vehicle, you will see where one side has the 3 long boots and the other side doesn't. Does the other side NOT need those 3 long boots?

I know originally months ago when I talked to the clerk at the parts store, I was told I would need to purchace those 3 boots separate because they duralast didn't come with all 6 of them.

My ngk wires had 3 long shafts on one side and 3 clipped ends on the other. 26$ for the wires.

Are you talking about the ignition coils?

Are the coils pictured? I remember a thread I started recently can't remember exactly when but someone said make sure I at least change the boots. So are there only 3 boots or 6?

large.jpg these are the coils. I just did th wires and plugs on my truck at 120k. I didn't change the coils. If you need to change the coils it would only take about five minutes more afterwards so it's up to you.

ok cool. Check post 5 and let me know if I have everything I need to tune it up please. I'm thinking I need 3 more boots but maybe the coils are in the drivers side heads and that's why the part of the wires that attach to the drivers side look different from the one's on pass side???

Yeah the smaller end of the wires clip into those coils on the passenger side...make sure you gap the plugs also as they won't probably be correct from the store.

    OME and worth every penny.
Under each coil is a boot that should be changed. that write up rec'd just cleaning them. You wouldn't just clean the boots on the drivers side, why just do that to passengers?
BTW, My experience was that not long after NOT changing the boots, one burned up and shorted. Threw a code, was easy to find and didn't stop it form running.
It probably has a lot to do with how old they are. Mine were prob. around 150K miles and 15 yrs. old or so.

yes. you can change the coil boots. and yes, they are separate from the wires. the NGK boots are only 6 bucks on rock auto. go with those. NGK wires are 21 as well. so 50 bucks for NGK quality.

densos are about 15 bucks more.

dang I guess those are what I was originally thinking that needed to be changed but when I saw the new wires, I guess that threw me off. So I guess the chick at the parts store actually knew what she was talking about lol.

Only problem now is I already bought the OEM wires off ebay for 44 bucks. I was thinking the OEM's are definitely better than the duralast she offered me at autozone so that's why I went with OEM.

Do the NGK wires last as long as OEM?

I will see if the guy I got them from on ebay either has the boots I need for a good price or will take the wires back if not. And that's if the NGK's will last as long as them
yes I just have to see if the guy I got the OEM ones from on ebay has the boots for a good price and if not will take back what I bought so I can get the NGK wires and boots.

Unless It would be ok to just use the NGK boots with the OEM wires?
