I've been thinking about putting new cams in my tacoma, but I can't find anything about how much extra lift is reasonable. Anyone have any idea?

I was thinking it might give it some more power, but I might just go the way of getting thorley headers. In all reality the engine is pretty reliable as is, so now that I think about it probably wouldn't be any better to put in new internals.

One big thing to keep in mind about these engines, is the VVT. It isn't like changing cams in a 70's V8, where you can tune it for high power at the expense of making it idle like a model-T. The VVT really gives us the best of everything.

That makes a good bit of sense, I guess I should have read up a bit more on the VVT before jumping to put a cam in.
