im assuming that switch/relay diagram will work with any 2-way toggle switch.. because I have a switch for my Bluetooth capability enable on my radio, and I was in the same boat.. worked only when the Accessory was on, but not when it was switched (no power running through) just used the switch as an on/off

I noticed my opener has two switches soldered to the momentary opener button. I wonder which two to solder to? Anybody know?

    Its the S4 button below

    Hey Dilbert and Fergyz

I'm getting the same switch(just for the middle panel in the 2nd gen), was wondering if I could just restate what I'm planning and you tell me if I'm way off? I'll hook the red wire from the switch's harness to the power of one of the cigarette lighters(don't use them anyway) and the black I'll ground somewhere. Then I'll solder the red and green wires on to opposite sides of the momentary switch on the opener's circuit board. Finally plug it all in and have a built in garage door opener. I have a 12v battery in the opener now so I think I should be good without a relay, what do you think?

    Thanks,
    David

If you want to omit the relay you'll want to connect red and green to the gdo remote, black to ground, and green to a dash light source. With a 12v remote I don't know if it'll light up the switch when pressed or not.

I would be careful with the fact your garage opener is powered by a 12 volt battery.

It sounds like you could potentially hard wire the remote to be powered by the truck. While this would be ideal, the remote may not work correctly or for very long. Voltages higher than 12 volts produced by the truck could kill the remote. You would need a regulated 12 volt power source.

As for using 12 volts on the momentary switch on the remote, that still may not be a good idea unless you test the remote with a multimeter.

You need to confirm what the voltage is at the switch on the remote. If it is not 12 volts, then a relay needs to be used.

Has anyone done this with a Chamberlin remote? Planning on doing this soon.

Holy shizzle... I'm buying a garage door opener switch. I need that in my life. Question, how do I get it to open my traditional average Craftsman 1/2HP LiftMaster?? If this is possible I will be so excited. Why are there two sizes? Aren't our switches the same size.

Not sure if anyone still follows this tread but if so I too am looking for guidance on wiring to my specific opener. (I have the same switch and harness listed in the OP)

Opener has 3 buttons but I only plan on using the one (SW2 in the pic below). I’m clear on ground and lighted source if I go that route. Just wondering where I need to wire my red and green to the GDO. Looks like each button has two sets of soldered connections, similar to the one listed earlier in the thread. Any insight is appreciated. I’ll pick up a multi meter tomorrow so see what I can find on my own too.

Pick two that seem logical and short them with a jumper wire. If the door operates, they're the correct ones. If not, try another pair. I think mine were diagonal.

    this!

BTW, do you plan on wiring it directly to the switch, or are you going to build a relay setup for it

Still undecided really. I like the ease of direct to the switch and honestly I don’t really mind if it doesn’t illuminate. Yet never having to replace a battery would be nice so if I go all in I’d do a step down.

well. to be frank, theres a way to wire it that its illuminated AND you don't need a relay.. that's how I have mine wired up

let me make a diagram for you

A diagram would be awesome if you want to make one.

If not, let me just ask. If I wire red and green to the gdo for the switch to function. Can I still attach blue to say a tail or parking circuit so that it illuminates at night? I know it won’t light when pressed with being run off the remotes battery.
