So, CopperT passed his test on Saturday. If I set up a small meet would anyone be interested ? I would go through the basics of amatuer radio then walk you through each of the questions in the question pool for the Tech license and explain them to you. Doesn't mean you will be ready to take the test immediately, but it would be a good start.

The test is easy for those who are interested.

    1. Get the book:
    http://www.amazon.com/ARRL-Ham-Radi...=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1266878204&sr=8-2

    2. Read it. Should only take a few nights if you focus.

    3. Take the test.

Martie and I managed to pass after 3 nights of studying. Well worth it especially if you're into offroad racing. You can follow all the action in the Weatherman channel while watching the rigs go by.

You don't even need the book anymore. Theres lots of online resources. www.hamtestonline.com is by far the best I've found. It costs a few bucks but it works. I studied for 1 day for my Extra and only missed 2.

Here is the question pools in various formats.

Reviving an old post...but I passed my Ham radio Technician exam today! :yay: They told me that I will be able to see what my call sign will be on Monday. Should be posted on FCC data base by then. WOO HOO!!!
I used hamtestonline.com and some other links to study for it. It was easy...especially after studying.
Thanks to HBMurphy for your assistance!

thanks! I'm looking forward to doing a little more with it, with the guys from work. There are about 10 of us now who are all hams. I think the guy @ the test was telling me a bunch of crap. Was told today it will take a little while to get my callsign. We shall see. Are you guys just tech's or did you go higher? Thinking of studying for my general exam...

I'm just a tech. My motivation to get the license was so I could legally operate race radios in the desert.

By the way...I think your truck is bad ass! I've been following your build thread. I've wanted to get my license for awhile now, but as in life...I had higher priorities. Generally just wanted to have it just in case I would ever need it.
