I currently am driving a 09 swb off road double cab taco and I'm looking at a 2015 double cab on a dealer lot, but I'm a little confused to what I'm seeing. I have only saw pictures online, and talked with the dealer via email. They list it as a pro, but the only thing pro on it are the wheels and the grill that I can see in pictures. I emailed dealer stating this and asking him what trim level the truck is. He responds with after checking around the truck is a trd off road with a extra value package. He also states that when running the Vin it comes back listed as a pro. Has anyone ever heard of anything of the such? Thanks

Sweet-talk a Toyota parts rep at a dealership to look up the VIN and explain your case. They will see a list of package codes based off the VIN that they can decipher and should be able to tell if it's Pro or not. (codes indicating cold weather package, tow package, entertainment package, etc. etc.)

Pro VINs aren't specific to Pro's.

I think VINs list them as a TRD something or other. Not specific.

My 2011 TX Pro vin says it is a Off Road and then the options come up.

My 2015 OR vin comes back as Pro. It is not.

Is the truck white, black, or inferno?
Look at the suspension, does it have bare aluminum oversized bilstien shocks labeled with TRD stickers and red front TRD springs?
Does it have color matched rear bumper/front grill and hood scoop with a factory rear locker?
Are the headlights darker smoked chrome vs bright chrome?
Does it have the TRD performance exhaust?
Are the badges on the truck black, with tailgate badge saying TRD Pro?

The above are all Pro features, while it is possible to change any of them, missing multiple would signal likely non-Pro.

Thanks for all the replies, I pretty much already decided the truck was missing to many features for it to be a true pro. My question was more directed at did toyota offer some kind of factory package option let's say on a off road truck to give it a few upgrades and pro wheels and grill? I can't find anything so far saying they did.

This was answered in post #5. You need to do your homework.

I ran into the same issue on mine. Dealer listed it as a TRD Off road. Off-road rims had been added to a base truck. It was a Toyota dealer, so they should know how to tell the difference. I think they were intentionally mis-representing it and comparing their listed price to NADA for an off-road model. I played dumb and asked the sales rep what makes it an off road. He said the tires and suspension and said somebody just removed the graphics.

Definitely do you homework. I used the same list as in post 5 and had it highlighted. Easy checks are the shocks and the front brake discs. TRD off road package is only one with 12.45" disc vs 10.75 standard. I bought the truck for base model NADA wholesale.
