I bought my dream Tacoma this weekend. Silly, but I've wanted an older manual double cab for so long. 2006, 4x4, manual, double cab, sr5, 146,000 miles and runs great so far.

I've been a VW fan my whole life, but can't afford the pricey repairs anymore with the family in tow. I drove my friends 2005 Tacoma for a summer and fell in love with it's reliability and durability.

I know a fair amount about VW but am still learning about my Yota. Any advice for a newbie with my miles and year?

That's so great to hear! I really dove into VW and learned so much. I'm hoping to become obsessed in the same way with Toyota.

welcome to tw . as far as things to look into are the recalls and if they have been fixed. the leaf spring, spiral cable and frame.other then that with your mileage you are good for a while with just routine maintenance. it wouldn't hurt to do a diff oil change and transfer case fluid change as well.
    enjoy

Never owned a VW but I've always loved 21 window buses that lay on the ground! :) Like this one....

I drove all water cooled, but really love the history and thought behind air cooled. The connection between Hilter and air cooled VW is really interesting.
