Was looking at getting this HU from Crutchfield with the kit to preserve steering controls and other stuff.

Any thoughts or opinions? Would this be a good choice or should I keep looking?

    Thanks.

That's what I was wondering about, whether or not I need GPS, was thinking about going either way depending on price. I did find this HU for $550 on Amazon though. Can't you just hook up your phone to some of these HU's without GPS and get navigation through your phone on your screen?

As long as I can get forest service road maps I think navigation could be really cool.

Do you have a suggestion for something without GPS? I'd like to hear about guys experiences with different HU's and this one if anyone had it.

FWIW, I installed a Pioneer AVH-X5600BHS a couple years ago. It's got a few quirks that are irritating: the clock gains time; it you don't have Bluetooth turned on in your phone (or don't have your phone with you), an annoying message pops up on the display that won't go away on its own, you have to touch a button on the screen; it won't play by genre or artist, or support playlists on a flash drive; it supports Pandora but not iHeartRadio (though, granted, newer models probably do). Last fall I put a Kenwood received in an 89 Vette I had just "adopted" and even though it's not a touchscreen I like the features of it better.
