My exhaust has a bunch of pin hole leaks at the joints and welds. It's rusted to crap as well.

With my new welder I plan to piece together a "custom" exhaust. My question is, since I moved to NV from CA, do I need to keep both catalytic converters. When I had the truck smogged here in NV last time, they didn't put the sniffer in the tail pipe but simply plugged into to my OBD2 port under the dash.

Does anyone know what emissions equipment I need to keep to make the state of NV happy?

    OME and worth every penny.
I wouldn't build one that didn't keep the ECU happy. In TX where testing takes place, even if it doesn't throw a code. the O2's may never 'ready' themselves. You get 1 of those here as a freebie. Something else is acting up, you fail.

Yes, the downstream O2 sensor is calibrated to give the correct signal when both cats are present and working correctly. Otherwise you will throw a code (P0136 I believe).
Also you will lose low end torque by reducing the back pressure provided by the cats.
URD sells an O2 simulator that will send the correct signal to your ECU if you're dead set on removing the cats.

There is a kit you can buy that you attach the 02 sensor to and simulates it like you still have cats so it does not throw a code.

Happy may depend on the individual inspector and their attention to detail.

Legal would be 'all of it'. Federal law prohibits emissions tampering. Regardless of what state you are in, the vehicle is supposed to stay as it came from the factory.

I think you guys made my decision for me haha. I'll put on both cats.

The only reason I was trying to get away with one cat was to save some $$$.

    Thanks guys!
