Hi all, I've been noticing a strange bounce in the ride as a turn sharp corners and accelerate off them or going steady up a hill. It started off feeling similar to the bouncing caused when the tires quickly lose and regain traction repeatedly. Now it has become more noticeable and still feels as if it's coming from the rear end. I. Wondering if this sounds like the rear diff. needs to be serviced? Any advice?

Is it an lsd diff? The lsd clutches in the diff will chatter if the lsd additive isn't doing its job.

It is a limited slip diff. Should change the oil and reassess or check something else first?

As said above, start with the cheap and easy. Put fresh diff fluid and additive if applicable and see what happens.

Don't use synthetic in an lsd diff, just Dino 80-90 and lsd additive. I've been using this for the additive in my 07... IMG_3943.jpg
Remove the fill plug first, then the drain plug. Clean the drain plug magnet, reinstall drain plug and put in 1 quart of gear oil, then add the bottle of lsd additive (4 oz), then top off the diff with gear oil until it trickles out of the fill hole. Reinstall the fill plug, then go for a drive and see if it made any difference. If you can find a big spot to drive like an empty parking lot, drive in a figure 8 for a minute to help work the additive into the lsd clutches.

How many miles now, I've felt that for about the last 10k, at 99k now, being i'm going to 35" and regearing, I'm just bypassing the fluid change, it's time for a new Eaton Posi, those clutch pads last long but they do have an end to their use.

Does your Prerunner have the diff lock (TRD Offroad)? Sounds like the diff is locked.

No locking diff. The oil seemed fairly clean, no large metallic build up.

How about the Shocks? If the shocks are bad/poor quality/toast they will contribute to axle position changes/wrap, etc.

I checked for axle wrap a few days ago and as far as I could tell that wasn't a problem. It is also not lifted and just had leaf springs replaced for a recall. I'm suspecting the shocks but I guess I'll find out soon.

So the problem started right after leaf work? Might be a place to start anyways

If it was just done? Bring it back to the dealer and see what he says.... May fixed free - or at least a free look see.

Leaf springs have been in for several months and no issues until recent so I'm gonna rule those out.

I blew out a rear shock on my 07 back in the winter, I was literally bouncing off the bump stop everytime I hit any kind of pothole. If I got up on the rear bumper and bounced, it was really obvious which side was bad. The axle wrap and wheel hop in deep snow is what killed my rear shocks, I'm almost certain. Well that and their age. The snow finished them off.
