Just noticed today that my reservoir was leaking around the pump. I took it out and the hose is not cracked and I could not see a crack in the reservoir itself. It appears that the pump may be leaking. When I took it out, I could see that where the wire harness plugs into the pump it was a bit wet and the inside was a bit rusty. Also when the level in the reservoir is just above 1/2 full, the leak stops (less head pressure to cause the leak).

Questions: 1) Do I need to replace the tank and pump or can just the pump be replaced?
    2) Can some washer solutions cause the pump to fail/corrode internally or the rubber seal where the pump enters the reservoir to deteriorate and leak?

Any answers or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I think I can get a replacement reservoir/pump for less than $50. I may just let it go until it fails completely and then replace it. But then again I hate anything that does not work properly (or leaks) so I may just replace it now.

    Cheers!

It looks like you can replace just the pump per a quick search on Google. If you can find a way to tighten the pump to the tank that might be worth a shot before replacing it. Perhaps it's just a bit loose or the gasket has contracted a bit.

I do not think they can be tightened as there is just a rubber grommet that seals between the pump and the reservoir. Probably the grommet deteriorated, so I will just buy a new pump with grommet for around $20.

    Thanks!

Replaced the pump today ($19 at NAPA and 10 minutes removal/install time) and all is well. It appears that the grommet may have deteriorated due to some crappy washer solution I put in the reservoir. From now on it is soft water only.
