I don't know what it is but your front end does look high on those 33s. You should be at 24.5" max on a preruner hub to fender. Better to go with 24" for a slightly better ride.....BTW comparing amount of preload to others isn't always the best way to go. If they have 4wd their front end is a bit heavier maybe ~250lb more so they'll have more preload to achieve the same height.

My truck is 4x4 and my measurement from center of hub to inner fender is 24". As you can see I preloaded mine over 2" but not past the recommended max amount of threads which is 2.375"

I'll measure in the morning...I might have gone to high. I would ideally like to take some preload off for a better ride if I did go too high. I just don't know how much. I still need help clearing the 33s.

Since I have more weight up front being 4 wheel drive the valving was still too stiff so that's why I had them re valved. Remember Icons have digressive valving unlike most others that have progressive valving. Big difference. Here is how my truck sits.

Anybody recommend a better rear setup?? The ride is so shitty in the back a crack in the road fully extends the damn shock.... I'm running a 2 inch shackle in the rear and stock shocks/leafs. Thinking of getting some icons their rated for 0-3 inches. But would they help a lot? Will have to save up for dakars maybe in the next couple months. So hoping icons will fix it for now. When I was stock I could take a fire road like 40x faster , now the ride is like unbearable . Thanks guys! Besides that loving the build so far! A lot of good stuff to come!!

Hey guys had a quick question, just a few days ago i started getting a bad creak/squeak coming from my steering...Even when truck is off slightly wiggling steering wheel back and fourth i hear the creak... Its focused in the passenger side tie rod/boot area? and occurs at slowish speeds 0-30mph. I jacked the truck up and then no noise.. Could the joints just need a little grease?? its not the LBJ.. Just installed new ones. If anyone has any input , ill take it please! the creak is getting pretty bad, but my power steering seems to be fine

Idk. Undo one side at a time(tie rod) and turn wheel with truck off, then do opposite side if squeak remains on the side that is still connected? Would be my guess to diagnose those anyways. Since you said it goes away when jacked up.. There might be a better way.

Hmm could it just be lack of grease? Haven't pulled the boots back either don't really know what's in there

it could be your rack bushings, mine went out right after I lifted and did 33s too. And your suspension will get softer with time. When I initially did my lift it was really stiff too but after about a month it softened up. As for rear setup, I went with ome dakar springs and love em. Just figure out if you're going to do a ubolt flip or ubolt eliminator kit before you do this because you'll have to buy shocks a second time if you decide to do it later

Oh yeah. Check those rack bushings too. Can do it while running. Just rubber neck under the truck and watch the rack as you turn the wheels and watch for it to flex. If zero flex them I doubt it's those. As far as your the rods needing grease? Sure if they're greasable. But if not, they'll Probly need replaced if those are the culprit. You might be able to squirt some lube in there under the boot and into the joint, as a temp fix. Or grease. But yeah if not greasable then plan on replacing the asap. Again, if those are the culprit. Might even check your sway bar bushings. Idk if those could cause a creak or not tho. But I imagine things are pretty stressed with your current amount of lift. Could be anything..

What components are you running up top again? Ubj's/control arms?

Camburg uniballs ... and I'm almost positive it's the rack bushing I think.... the passenger bushing where it's clamped before the boot flexes a tad while turning the wheel and squeaking

    Well there ya go!
Get some polys and you'll be good. Not too bad of a job. The bushing that goes in the front gave me a little bit of a hard time, but got her in.

but fair warning, poly bushings are known to squeak, so this will fix the movement/flex but will create a new/different kind of squeak

Mm, not so much the case with the rack bushings. As they will completely eliminate the movement. Thus no squealing/creaking. I've had mine for a few years and no issues.. A little different when using polys with joints though. Like on control arms or leafs. ;)

Edit. Or you can get rubbers too. Either or will work. I think the polys are better for the rack myself in this case. They'll last longer. And they're basically just dampers/cushions. Plus they're more dense, so like I said they'll pretty much eliminate any kind of flex which is what you want for the rack. Surprisingly enough, my camburg uca poly bushings haven't even squeaked, and I've only greased them once more shortly after install, years ago as well.

Check my build and recommend Allpro Expedition springs instead of shackles.

    1. Standard duty rear 3" lift springs.
    2. Expedition rear 3" lift springs: Allpro note: On unloaded Tacomas, they will result in a 1″ taller stance than the stated lift height of 3″. The stated lift height (3") is maintained with loads of 400-500 lbs of cargo.
    3. Allpro 2.0 Expedition: Allpro note: To be very clear, The 2.0 expo leafs are designed for vehicles carrying a minimum of 500+ pounds of additional weight at all times.

I bought the Expedition rear 3" lift springs not the 2.0 (they did not have those at the time and don't always carry a full load as they describe). That said, my rear is a lot higher since I usually run it unloaded (although I have the shell and a few things in the back) and have always wondered why my front end is not as lifted as expected? I only have about 1.3" of my threads run out but another thing we are doing is switching to 700lb coils (when I bought my Icons and searched the part number at the time they were 650lbs). So will probably add a bit more to the run out on the threads. New shoes and wheels.

    - 285/70/R17's Falken Wildpeak AT3 tires
    - Icon Vehicle Dynamics 17" Satin Black Machined rims

Also going after pinch weld and using heat gun to flatten the rubber molding. Might also have to trim my Bushwackers but will see how it all sits after we get everything else done.

What tires you running again? Too lazy to look back. Ha.
And how's she flex up front? Still pretty stiff or does it actually flex?
